Hello Fellow SILVER treasure hunters:

In January 2014, please post your finds right here.

HIGHLIGHTS OF DECEMBER'S SILVER SEARCHING:

LOOKING FOR A DEDICATED INDIVIDUAL TO CARRY THE SILVER STATS IN 2014. I WILL HELP YA' GET SET UP, BUT IT'S A BIT MUCH FOR ME THESE DAYS. SEND ME A PM, IF INTERESTED. (I WILL CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN THE COPPER STATS.) IF NOT, EVEN WITHOUT THE STATS, I WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE THE MONTHLY THREAD FOR ALL TO POST.

COMING SOON!!

It's important to post your SKUNKS as well as your great SILVER finds. That keeps the statistics honest. I'll try to post some graphs of our SILVER finds as 2013 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2013 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.

It might be interesting to see how many Barbers, Walkers, Franklins, and 90% Kennedys are found too. Also, how many Barbers and Mercurys dimes we find. I'll try to keep track of all of these.

Now, go out and find that SILVER treasure!!

Those of you who are considering becoming RealCent members - Why not join today and stake your SILVER claims right here? Compete with other members in the race to see who is the best SILVER hunter.

Statistical data includes all posts January 01, 2014 mid-night forum time and later.

Finished sorting $500 bag of dimes.

Only found one silver dime, 1953. Otherwise also a 2009 - only notable finds.

As a "bonus" (these didn't count against my total) I also found a nickel and a cent - and a flat plastic token - dime sized.

I may stop sorting dimes. I only average about 2 dimes out of a $500 bag. I have better luck in change - recently when I got cash at a Walmart return counter - had a silver dime in change. Told clerk to check her tray - she looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about. Oh well!

Good luck everyone! :)

1 $1000 bag of dimes....one 1964. That was a lot of work for one silver dime. Halfway through the bag I remembered I had a dime wheel, installed it on a spare Apprentice and finished that bag off. The comparator is not that great...I had to adjust it so it would reject a sizable amount of clad to capture my silver calibration dimes. Just re-ran the rejects until I could finally hand check the rejects and there was that lone bright stripe of silver. Hopefully better luck next time.

Found while dumping
Silver quarters - 1940, 1941, 1951d, 1954d

The sad part is that's more silver than I've found in $5,500 worth of half dollar boxes so far in 2014. :|

100.00 dimes, 20.00 nickels - both from a local small town bank.

The nickels gave me a few (late 50 / early 60) which I will sit on for future books (grand daughter I hope).

The dimes were a mixed lot of their own wrapped rolls (11), and some they got from the local F.R.B. branch (9) when they are short on coins. This bank prefers to use their own coins when they can. Of course, it doesn't help them when I take a bunch of their change else where to dump....

Any who - the FRB rolls, once again, as they have been from all the banks / credit union's I've gotten them at - were a skunk. Nothing in them.

The banks rolls produced a 1964 Roos. Now if they would only do half dollars.....

1946 1954

Is this about average for a box of dimes if not what is?

Yes, I find that that is the average for a box of dimes.
