It says they are facing 5 years in jail and $250k fine.... is it because of the amount they were selling? Playing devils advocate here... but why are they in trouble for this? Isn't it the Pawn Shops due dilligence to make sure they are real? And paying $15 a pop, they thought they were hosing the sellers!!! What if they really thought that they were selling real Morgans they got from someone else? Would they still be in trouble? Not sure if I like it.....

It is called counterfeiting.
This is a federal offense and the secret service does not like counterfeiters in any manner.

It is ONLY a crime if you knowingly attempt to sell something as real if it is a fake.

Trying to sell 2000+ fake Morgan's is a lot different than selling one, 10, or even 100.

These guys knew exactly what they were doing.
They went to a bunch of different shops within a couple days.
If they were innocent why not sell them all to 1 shop?

Thats true... if it was honest mistake they probably woulda just sold them all to one place. I was just curious why some of these guys like on ebay that try to scam people with fake coins, get away with it but these guys get busted. THats all

Syracuse is right down road from me. Hour drive. Hope they didn't dump at too many other shops in area. Make me apprehensive about buying any now.
