Today's load.
Sheet iron 220 lbs. 11.55
Old sheet aluminum 67 lbs. 13.72
Yellow Brass Solids 10 lbs. 12.60
#2 copper 4 lbs. 6.68
18/8 stainless steel 7 lbs. 1.75
Total 46.41

First and last time I'll ever scrap iron, just did it because it was there.
They had a note at the yard, today iron was going down in price $10/ton.

Yep steel sucks, but as you breakdown items to get the good stuff (copper, brass, stainless, etc.) you will have some steel left over. And depending on your yard if you separate your steel you can make a few more cents a pound depending on what you have. And your steel price is better than my $.03 lb!

Also now that prices are down there is lots more stuff out there! Even most items still have there power cords attached. When prices were high $.115 a pound for steel a item put out would be gone in hours now several days to a week. So I leave some steel out there, and when I need to make a truck load to the scrap yard It is normally still there. If its gone no big loss...

I took 6 bags of plastic to the 'green' recycle up on price st. ... as they are now paying .40 with no weight limitations.. ie do not have to have 100 lb. I had 46

picked up 4 struts from an auto shop .. whopping 41 lb at 60/t

Good point! Along with gas being less expensive than last year, this helps.

my gfs work decided that I took enough of the cardboard that it no longer made financial sense to pay the city's 60$ a month fee. not that it really ever made sence. since the value added up to $30 a month , other than valentines and mothers day weeks.

Today, the usual, aluminum, copper wiring, stainless, power packs, circuit boards, motors, just allot of not much for 14.63. I just keep tossing it in the back of the truck, but this was a final cleanup from my last run. The thought of getting money for plastic, peaks my curiousity, .40/lb. for plastic, that's more than I can get for aluminum.

Google this if you don't believe me, but around 1880 or so aluminum was actually worth more than gold. Can you imagine if that was the case now?
