3.00/lb was the highest in my area by far. The next highest I was quoted was 2.80. Many yards only buy it for brass price or even lead.

The "street price" is usually $2.00/lb. I got this special price because I asked for a quote ahead of time and do a large amout of business with this yard. Larger amounts of material can be turned over more quickly.

Newer pewter that's metled and cast into ingots is worth about $10/lb because it's mostly tin, Sn. I came to the conclusion it wasn't worth my time to melt this mess down.

Special price indeed! Aluminum is going for 98 cents/lb. on kitcometals.com and you got 95 cents. Wow!

The only thing I can think of is perhaps the buyer was unable to sell what they had until they had maybe a ton or so and your haul is what put them over the top. Just a wild guess.

My scrapping buddy I met at the scrap yard today scrapped about $400 worth of aluminum, a bit of iron, some brass/copper stuff, some random stuff he didn't tear down, lots of aluminum window frame type of stuff, aluminum must be up or something. Anyway, we talked and I learned literally nothing more about aluminum than I already did, but he had allot.

The guy in line before us had a semi load of stuff, pallets of aluminum cans mostly but some really big copper piping.

Back 11/29/17 I scrapped 21 lbs. insulated copper, 10 lbs. aluminum breakage, 1 lbs. copper radioators, and 7 lbs. brass for 33.85
Today I scrapped iron, yes iron 60 lbs. for 4.65, 7 lbs. mixed aluminum solids, 2 lb.s brass, 8 lbs. copper, 2 lbs. #2 copper, 1 lb. clean die cast, 2 lbs. 18/8 stainless, and 3 lbs. electronic boards, .15 cents on the boards, I know they were worth way more, got jipped again on those darnit and I said I wouldn't bring those into them anymore.
Total 34.31

Oh well, it is what it is, - 5.00 as most of the 8 lb.s copper came from a estate sale where I bought a small box full of copper scrap. Not much of a haul, but I did acquire an old sears garage door opener from someone who drove in and just wanted to get rid of it, thought I would be scrap free, not to be this time around.

Aluminum went over $1.00 a pound for the first time in at least five years. Maybe even longer, but the chart I looked at only went back five years.

And Dr. Cadmium got $3 a lb. Wow, what a HUGE difference! If you do the math (with sheet iron at ~5 cents/lb.) that is roughly like selling silver and getting paid for copper. YIKES!
