Late in the month Coinstar gave up only the third dollar coin I've ever found, and first since Sept of last year. Two more countries - Colombia & Japan - continued the race to a new CS record for nations found. Nickels and dimes just about doubled their totals, plus new candidates emerged for oldest US and foreign coins. No silver, but March was still a good month.

March totals (2019 totals)

1¢ - .47 (1.19)
5¢ - .30 (.65)
10¢ - 2.10 (4.20)
25¢ - 1.25 (3.25)
$1 - 1.00 (1.00)
Total - 5.12 (10.29)

Included in March totals - 1937 (oldest US so far!) & 1955 wheaties

Austria
5 euro cents (2007)

Bahamas
1 cent (2009)

Canada
10 cents (2001 Volunteers, 2009)
25 cents (1979, 2001-P, 2007 Olympics/Biathlon)

Colombia
50 pesos (2015)

Germany
2 euro cents (2015F)

Japan
1 yen (1959, Shōwa era) <---new oldest foreign!

Found a 1943-P steel cent in the Coinstar machine at the local grocery store today.

This brings to mind a funny story about my wife. I was probably looking at a stack of coins (which I tend to do from time to time) and she asked "What is that?" It was a steel cent. She replied "I collect those!" Keep in mind that we had been married 15-20 years when this happened and I have to admit I was absolutely SHOCKED! I asked how many she had. She proudly said "Two." I laughed so hard I couldn't control myself and promptly went to the LCS to get a roll for her. I figured she'd appreciate them.

Was at my bank yesterday and watched a guy put coin in the counter. He checked the reject chute and pulled one coin out. He looked at it and placed it on the machine near where you dump coins in. I waited until he left and then went to check it out. 1999 Canadian dime. (thoughts of silver were going through my head)

I just love that. How great is it to find abandoned coins just waiting for you? Had the same experience with two foreign-looking, quarter-sized coins last week. Snatched them and put them in my pocket without looking at what they were. That creates suspense for the ride home.

Have to be careful though. Was checking out a reject chute last month and I must have raked my fingers in it a little two aggressively because I flipped the only coin back up the slot and into the machine. I'm convinced it must have been an 1877 Indian cent.

Yesterday at the Coinstar machine at a local Walmart store I found a 1962 (P-mint) silver dime. Along with a clad dime.

On Easter Sunday I did my usual route of four Coinstars and found a Czech Republic coin, the 18th country this year and a new personal high. It took only 111 days to eclipse 2016's record. The new goal is 25 for 2019 so let's hope this trend continues. Foreigns in general were well-represented in April, with Canada and Britain both doubling their face value totals for the year. That's not to say US discoveries were lagging. A fourth wheatie and a third silver dime were among April's tally, which is now more than twice 2018's total at this point. Great month!

April totals (2019 totals)

1¢ - .41 (1.60)
5¢ - .30 (.95)
10¢ - 1.60 (5.80)
25¢ - 2.00 (5.25)
$1 - 0.00 (1.00)
Total - 4.31 (14.60)

Included in April's totals - 1940-S wheatie, 1959 dime

Canada
1 cent (2006 RCM magnetic, 2008)
5 cents (2009, 2016)
10 cents (2011, 2012)
25 cents (2003-P uncrowned, 2007 (x2), 2008 Olympics/Figure Skating)

Czech Republic
1 koruna (2012)

France
2 euro cents (2009)

Great Britain
2 pence (1994)
5 pence (1990, 2008 Royal Shield)

Italy
10 euro cents (2010)

South Korea
100 won (1987)

Tokens, etc.
Cherries token

2019 Countries (18)
Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand

My wife hit the mother lode the other day. she got about $25 in change out of the machine at a local supermarket. she had thrown it into her change jar by the time I got home, so I was not able to count the exact amount. It was mostly perfectly good coins. She thinks that whoever did it never checked it at all or tried to rerun them.

1964 SILVER dime

Another shiny, lonely, little dime - looking for a new home! Found in a Coinstar reject bin on the way out of my Food Lion grocery store after church. :D

Watched a guy dump bag of coins into the Walmart Coinstar. Sat down and waited, hoping he would not check the reject slot. He took his receipt and walked off. SCORE for me.

That almost looks like a magician’s coin. Might want to see if you can pry it apart with some sort of tool, although it’s more common to see that on half dollars.

Not coinstar but bank coin counting machine. The repairman was working on the ATM located right next to coin counter, so figured he had already checked. My lucky day:
No siver, but one surprise
4 Canadian quarters - 2008, 2016 X 2, 2002P
3 Canadian dimes - 1986, 2011, 2012
2 Canadian nickels - 1974, 2002P
2 US quarters - 1974, 1980
2 US pennies - 2006D X 2

And the surprise is a 1935D Wheatie in pretty good shape.

Wheat pennies and silver dimes are vying to see which will be more common in 2019, and it's a battle I'm enjoying. So far wheaties are in the lead 6-5, jumping out in front thanks to a new oldest date for the year...1923. May also produced the highest US total of the year so far, though it was the first month without a new country, but foreigns still made a varied showing.

May totals (2019 totals)

1¢ - .81 (2.41)
5¢ - .75 (1.70)
10¢ - 3.00 (8.80)
25¢ - 1.75 (7.00)
$1 - 0.00 (1.00)
Total - 6.31 (20.91)

Included in May totals - 1923, 1956-D wheaties; 1958-D, 1962-D dimes

Canada
10 cents (1968, 2010, 2015, 2016x2)
25 cents (1980, 2009, 2012)

France
1 euro cent (2011)

Great Britain
1 penny (2003, 2008 old rev)

Japan
1 yen (1993 - Heisei Era)

Mexico
50 centavos (2017)
1 peso (2001)
