This is how fast we move upon discovering a random coin on a Coinstar machine.

Coinstar visits were fewer last month due to several factors but the clear winner was US coinage. A small spill of silver and wheaties was the August highlight which netted me my first silver quarter of the year. They were on the floor right in front of the machine and had I come in only a few minutes later it probably would've been scooped up by someone else. Timing is everything! One lone Swiss coin was the entire foreign tally and finds in my apartment complex parking lot increased slightly to $2.04. At this point, $3.65 for the year (a penny a day) seems unlikely.

August total (2021 total)

1¢ - .32 (5.50)
5¢ - .70 (10.10)
10¢ - 1.00 (15.20)
25¢ - 2.25 (48.25)
50¢ - .50 (3.50)
$1 - 1.00 (2.00)
Total - 5.77 (84.55)

Included in August's total: 1929 & 1940 wheaties; 1947 Roos; 1962 quarter

Another month where I simply didn't hit as many Coinstars as I would've liked. No especially remarkable finds except for my first wartime nickel from a Coinstar. I'll have to clear $4 in each of the last three months to hit $100 so time to step things up. My apartment complex parking lot gave up 63 cents, including a couple of quarters, giving new life to my penny-a-day goal. I'm almost at par with $2.67 thru 273 days.

September total (2021 total)

1¢ - .29 (5.79)
5¢ - .55 (10.65)
10¢ - .70 (15.90)
25¢ - 1.75 (50.00)
50¢ - 0.00 (3.50)
$1 - 0.00 (2.00)
Total - 3.29 (87.84)

Included in Sept's total: 1943-P nickel

Ah, cooler weather is here at last! As the holidays approach that usually means spending goes up and those home coin jars get emptied at the nearest Coinstar. While Oct was another subpar month for me in CS visits, I still managed to accumulate enough US coinage to keep the $100 year goal in sight. The highlight was a 21-coin bonanza that produced 6 wheaties. Although foreigns suffered somewhat, this month's big winner was parking lot finds in my apartment complex. I'm at $3.48 for the year and if I can manage 30 more cents between now and Dec 31st I'll have averaged a penny a day for the past two years. And with more days off and pleasant walking weather in the next 61 days, I've got a fighting chance!

October total (2021 total)

1¢ - .64 (6.43)
5¢ - .30 (10.95)
10¢ - 1.40 (17.30)
25¢ - 3.25 (53.25)
50¢ - 0.00 (3.50)
$1 - 0.00 (2.00)
Total - 5.59 (93.43)

Included in Oct's total: 1928, 1937 (x2), 1940, 1941-D (x2), 1942-S wheaties (6 of these were found in one CS visit)

Canada
25 cents (2004-P)

Yesterday at a local Giant supermarket I saw someone unloading a LOT of change. I hung around for a while and waited until they were done. Here's what I took out of the reject chute...

2 Canadian dimes: 1958 and 1960
3 Canadian nickels: 1969, 1979 and 1981
1 Bahama quarter: 2015
1 US dime: 1958
3 US Wheat pennies: 1935, 1944, 1957

I almost never find any at the machines around here - because of that I rarely look any more.

I used to find stuff all of the time at the one that was near my work in Baltimore. People would leave foreign currency and coins that were stuck together there all of the time. I would always pick them up.

Here in DE, though, either people aren't using the machines as much, or, are smarter about their money. Either way, I find more at the self checkouts than at the Coinstar machines.

People are using them enough around here that this chap has to come out for regular maintenance. Spoke with him once while he went about his work and he was very friendly and didn't mind answering questions.

Coinstar continues to be the number one source for coins in my collection, especially foreigns. This month I found my 68th different country and I'm one away from finding my 150th different euro coin. All for free!

What is wrong with these people??

That's what I think about people who use Coinstar.

But I'm grateful for the goodies they leave behind.

$100 is imminent! The US total will crack three digits for the first time ever sometime in Dec, aided in Nov by some pretty nifty silver finds too. Wheaties are approaching half a roll for the year. Don't think that's ever happened before. The yearly record for foreign countries will not be broken but I'm more than happy with two dozen nations (and counting), including a new one this month. And speaking of records, parking lot finds in my apt complex reached $4.26 for the year, easily eclipsing my penny-a-day goal. Combined with last year's $3.53 means I'm over the penny threshold for 2020-21, and Dec will be gravy, maybe with a side of mash potatoes & a slab of turkey!

November total (2021 total)

1¢ - .75 (7.18)
5¢ - .55 (11.50)
10¢ - 2.30 (19.60)
25¢ - 2.00 (55.25)
50¢ - 0.00 (3.50)
$1 - 0.00 (2.00)
Total - 5.60 (99.03)

Included in Nov's total - 1938 & 1941 wheaties; 1940 Merc; 1964 quarter

At my local bank yesterday, checked out the reject chute on the lobby coin counter. One dime and a Chinese coin similar in size to a dime. 2013 One YI JIAO. It looks like it is one tenth of a Yuan worth about 12 cents US.

2 cents in the reject chute at the local Wal Mart Coinstar. Also noticed several other coins jammed between two pieces of sheet metal near the feed chute. At least one quarter and several dimes and maybe a nickel. Tried to get them out with my fingers, but they were too tight. I could have got them with a pliers or a screwdriver I think.
