Cleaning ugly pennies

Postby cwgii » Mon Dec 12, 2022 9:17 am

I seem to be getting a higher and higher amount of ugly coin.

You tube and on here, have lead me to try just soap and water. That was less than I wanted. So next up was salt and vinegar.
Mayhaps that was too much.

But it does appear that the green gunk is gone.mostly the ones with dark staining on them are not going to come clean.

I wouldn’t put much time and effort into cleaning pennies.
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

Kind of an,OCD, thing.since there is no market for, ugly cu, I am getting too many. Part of my thinking is that it might minimalize the green creeping crud.

If I keep up with it, by placing the, rejects ,from each sorting session into a jar of vinegar and salt. It won't get overwhelming.
This last $10 I rejected half.

For the nasty sticky ones from Coinstar I use fingernail polish remover

Acetone, right. For the ugly zimcs, I'm just using hot saopy water. Since they are going to a coinstar.

I've done 4 batches of 50 coins. About 20% of the coppers still have green.

These I put through the solution a second time. With no improvement. Oh well. Those are going into a pile labeled, Fugly.

I sort and put in bags as Ugly Abes. They will be first to go to the scrap yard or smelter. :D
