$522 in dollars today yielded three NIFCs.

2012-D Presidential (Cleveland Var 2)
2013-D Nat Am (Treaty/Delawares)
2015-D Presidential (Ike)

Quite an interesting haul today. Nothing new, but in this batch I also got three bicentennial Ikes, four gold-plated 1999-P SBAs, one holed 2000-D Sac and a couple of proofs (see that thread for specifics). That will conclude my bank searching until after Thanksgiving, then it'll be one final push in December, although I'm toying with the idea of simply ordering boxes instead of driving to random banks. It will depend on how many I'm missing at year's end. I do like finding Ikes, proofs and other oddball things, and banks love it when I rid them of these pesky dollar coins. We'll see...

$210 in dollars today yielded one NIFC.

2003-P Sac

Five BU NF String & Sons rolls doomed this batch (Washington x3, John Adams & Jackson) they will get broken open and returned. Two Ikes came along for the ride so at least there were some keepers.

Ordered a box from my regular bank, they said 1-2 weeks. Hoping not to get all new. In the meantime I'll still do my off-bank visits and gather what I can. Been a couple of weeks since my last find and I'm itching for a discovery.

$101 in small dollars today yielded one NIFC.

2015-D Presidential (LBJ)

Ordered a box from my regular bank, they said 1-2 weeks.

10 days later and still no word if it's arrived, but then this branch has a 2.7 star (out of 5) Google review rating. I'll stop by tomorrow and check.

$1,000 in small dollars today yielded nine NIFCs.

Bold is new to the collection.

2002-P Sac
2005-P Sac
2007-D Sac
2012-D Presidential (Harrison)
2013-D Native Am (Treaty)
2014-D Presidential (Hoover)
2014-P Presidential (FDR)
2015-D Presidential (JFK) (x2)

Ordered a box from my regular bank, they said 1-2 weeks.

And three weeks later it finally arrives. Though the results were less than stellar, one more gets crossed off the list.

Should be able to squeeze in a couple more big hunts before year's end. Big question is should I continue into 2024? Only 14 NIFCs left, not counting the tough Am Innovation's. Hate to bail when I'm so close to finishing certain series, and all from circulation. Maybe I'll go on until I complete one series, I dunno. We'll see how I feel after Jan 1st.

And the final answer is NO, I've decided to end dollar coin searching entirely, even for the rest of this year.

It was a lot of fun, and I found more than I thought was possible.

If anyone's curious I'll post some NIFC dollar stats in the coming days.

Coindood, are you going to search any other denomination? If so, I am guessing quarters and/or half dollars?

I'm not really sure.

Did quarters heavily in 2020-21. Once I found all the W's I pretty much stopped.

My chief source of halves was the last casino in Vegas with 50-cent slots, but there are only four machines left there and many, many attempts at searching produced maybe one or two silvers, so not really worth it. Besides, I'm on the other side of town and traffic isn't getting any better these days.

So that leaves me with nothing to search. I've toyed with the idea of opening a dump acct at a credit union that has a coin counter and simply buying nickel and penny boxes from my regular bank. But honestly, it doesn't sound all that appealing.

If anyone has any suggestions, please fire away.

Here are the promised stats from my small dollar searching:

Total searched (2023 only)
$15,742

Total small dollars found (all time)

A really great batch, and hot damn was it great finding my first Ronnie! Not listed are two gold plated SBAs.

A few months have passed since my last hunt and I was curious what was out there. Doubtful this will become a regular thing again.

$13 in small dollars yielded one NIFC:

2016-D Presidential (Nixon)

Dropped off some quarters at the bank today and I always ask if they have any "weird or unusual" coins.

Small amounts of dollar coins like this I'll take since they're easily spendable at supermarket self-checkouts. My casino source for dumping hundreds of these has started charging fees, which was part of the reason I stopped. So now and then you might see some NIFC small dollar reports from me, even though I've started buying the missing ones from my collection at coin shows.

That's crazy a casino charging a fee to turn in coin. You would think they would want you to spend those bills there and see what lady luck brings. Lol

$175 in small dollars today yielded two NIFCs:

2014-D Native Am (Hospitality)
2018-D Native Am (Jim Thorpe)

Had the urge again today and came close to a new one for the collection (need the 2018-P) but nothing new. It was fun getting back into searching dollars.

Right? I even have a player's club card which has always nullified the coin counter fees. That didn't matter. So I stopped going there for a few months. They also mothballed their half dollar machines so it's now just quarters and dollar tokens for the coin-op slots. Guess I'll have to trade with you fine gents for the newest halves.

$200 in small dollars today yielded one NIFC:

2017-P Native Am (Sequoyah)

Whenever I strike out on my Coinstar route I'll stop by a bank to get my coin fix that way.

In addition to the above NIFC I got a 1979-P Wide Rim SBA.

2002-D Sac
2007-P Sac
2007-D Sac
2012-D Nat Am (Trade Routes)

2020-D Pres (Bush)
2020-P Innov (SC)
2022-D Innov (RI)
2022-P Innov (VT)

Hoooooey! That was a fun search. Not only five new ones but all NIFC presidents showed except three. Some crazy rolls too that were nice mixtures of BU NIFC presidents that'll upgrade the ones in my books. Plus, there were a bunch of proofs that I'll list in that separate thread. Oh, and a 2012 Canadian loonie. Best part? The bank had another box that I snagged too :shifty: but it'll have to wait for another day. This one wiped me out! What a great way to spend a broiling Vegas summer day.

$1,000 in small dollars today yielded 14 NIFCs:

(Bold is new to the collection)

1981-D SBA
2005-P Sac (x2)
2005-D Sac
2007-D Sac
2012-D Pres (Arthur)
2012-P Pres (Cleveland V2)
2014-P Pres (Coolidge)
2015-P Pres (JFK)
2014-D Nat Am (Treaty/Delawares)
2016-D Nat Am (Code Talkers)
2017-D Nat Am (Sequoyah)
2018-D Nat Am (Jim Thorpe)
2023-D Am Innov (OH)

Well, at least box #2 wasn't a total bust. A lot of grubby, chewed up coins in this batch, and one lonely proof. Closing in on $20k searched all-time, might actually call it quits then.

Now you've done it. ;) Here I go again...

$674 in small dollars today yielded 3 NIFCs:

1981-S SBA
2008-P Sac
2020-D Pres (Bush)

The majority of this batch were weathered CWR that looked like they had been sitting in someone's collection for years (full rolls of SBAs, one original Mint roll of Washington's, etc.) so my hopes weren't high. The newest was the Bush coin that I got loose from the first of seven bank stops, everything else was 2011 or older, bleh.

I'll say this about my fickle attitude towards continuing to hunt small dollars - I'll keep doing it sporadically as long as I have a reliable place to dump them.
