Well, so I'm four boxes into this week's search and all still skunks so far. My last roll I discover two silver halves back to back at the end of the rolls. Voila! But then I look at the dates, 2000 and 2001. Someone marked these halves by spray-painting the rims silver! The faces were normal clad color. Anyone else encounter this?

That's a new one on me. You open a roll, see a lot of that pretty silver color and then realize that it is spray paint. That could really tick you off.
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

I have seen this trick many times. I got a lot of them about a year ago. Now I am just getting skunked on silver as well as the fakes.

The only "silver" quarters around here are Canadians (that don't work in the washing machine, so I have to look at the face). It'd be a waste of time for someone to paint the rims around here.

That would be something, huh? But I think the proofiness would have been more telling than the edges.
