Canadian cents

I am thinking I'm getting close to having my first $100 face of Canadian cents. I'm not sure I could part with them since it has taken me a couple of year to get them, but when I consider it further I'm betting the 98% copper would get a premium that Lincolns would not get because of the extra purity. So let say US copper is selling at 1.6 to 1.7 face. What would somebody think Canadian copper would go for?

Txbullion is paying $3 a pound. About 2x face see--http://www.realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=5067&p=50262#p50262 I think he has the best price on this site. Though if you give it some time at the rate the US$ is going they might be worth more.

I'm up here in Canada and the reason the price goes up is the shipping. $3 a pound is about 2X face but to ship 60 pounds costs about 80 bucks from here on the east coast. Its kind of the shits since the find rate is about 50% keepers. I have to get spot at least to make it even a little worth while. I've got so many right now I use them as legs to hold up a workbench. For now I will have to keep em that way.

That's funny you guys up north are only getting a 50% copper rate considering you only have about 15 years worth of zinc. I'm getting a 25 to 30% copper rate here in michigan.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander-- from the Royal Canadian Mint website http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/customer-service/faq-1100010#Q1 Is it illegal to melt or deface Canadian coins?
The Currency Act and The Canadian Criminal Code clearly state that no person shall melt down, break up or use otherwise than as currency any coin that is legal tender in Canada.

Like as legs holding up a workbench?

I guess the way to do it is to cross the border with the coins and ship flat rate from within the US (or meet up near the border). I paid C$100 to ship a bit over 60 lbs to Chicago, not that bad when it's nickels but for pennies it would not make sense.
