my turn

Postby Gamecock » Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:48 pm

For months I've been reading all these wonderful stories about people finding large amounts of silver in one day. Now, it's finally my turn to share one.

bank #1: $1 teller tray halves - 1988S proof
bank #2: $160 CWR halves - 5 walkers (all 41-45), 21 1964 Kens, 71 40% Kens

I also found 2 1974 that were golden in color. Does anyone know what these are? Did someone put something on them?

Congratulations of the great score!

I keep the gold plated halfs separate. I used the amount of gold plating on a replica gold coin advertisement to estimate how much gold was on these halfs. Not surprisingly, it is very very little. But I still keep them. A few are in "AU" condition for the gold plating, and they could probably be sold somewhere for a premium. There are articles on the web that will tell you how to extract gold from gold plated items; it was too many steps and too many chemicals for me to ever want to bother with. Still, I keep them.

Dang, that really makes me want to think about sorting halves again. I was skunked the last time I went through about $5000.

Congratulations and when's the celebration party? We're all invited, right?

Very nice finds! Who knows...maybe this is one of many more big days to come for ya. Keep sifting through them big bags!

NICE score indeed! I'm about to make a post that will interest you about doing this FULL TIME... my wife tried it!...

Shin... it's NOT about the volume you search... its about finding the right banks! Poor ol' NDFarmer... he's searched tens of thousands and not found any! I learned this fact early on in the game (thanks to fellow realcenters here).

Go GC's... I'm in Union! GC territory for sure. Really proud to hear they got their second world series title in a row!

I just got off crutches a couple of months ago from a softball injury, so my silver dance was limited to just from the waist up.

I'm not going to bother with boxes of halves any more...the CWRs are where the big finds are. They're hard to find most of the time in my area, but they produce when I can get them.

I haven't made plans for the party yet, but when I do, all of you are definitely invited.

Wednesday will be my day to do the rounds at the banks. A $2000 pickup at one, meeting with the vault teller at another. stop at everything in between until I run out of either time or cash.

No such thing as CWR's in my area. All coins have to be run through the banks counting machine before they will accept them. Even my machine wrapped rolls of coins must be busted open and ran through the machine before they will accept them.

Congrats! Yeah, I had been getting skunks (or almost-skunks) lately, but a couple of weeks ago, I scored 23 40% halves, four 90% and a couple proofs to go with it; so at least that made up for the recent skunks. So the silver is out there...just gotta keep looking and keep pounding away at it.

Cwr's may be the purest finds... but I wonder if, overall, the percentages of finds for the CWR searchers isn't fairly close to the percentages found by BWR searchers? No one tells you how much they lost at the casino, only how much they won. How many hours are spent going bank to bank versus just ordering and checking what you got? I gave up on asking for CWR's when the last ten places or so I asked at told me that multiple people are doing the same thing. But GC.... conga rats big time, nonetheless!
