check this penny out.

Postby Henchman » Sat Aug 13, 2011 3:11 pm

Was dumping at a TD bank yesterday and of course the bag needs to be changed. The teller changing the bags checked the reject shoot and pulled out a handful of goodies (Canadians, Euros and some Tokens). On top of that she's like "Wow check this penny out!" I told her to keep it since it obviously wasn't one of my 10,000. :D she insisted that I take it anyway since I guess I have the creepy penny guy vibe now. Check out the pictures. Worth anything?

Cheers,
Henchman

Now that's what I call high-relief! They should make the rim taller as well so these coins can stack better.

Not sure if it's worth anything, but you should keep it for conversational purposes. You know, you're watching hockey and a nice looking girl sits down next to you and...

Henchman: You come here often?
Girl: Every home game!
Henchman: Wow, you are loyal.
Girl: Yup.
Henchman: Wanna see something cool?
Girl: Sure.
Henchman: Check out ol' Abe!
Girl: Will you marry me?

Or something like that...

Love the handwriting, Henchman. Have you ever considered becoming a professional calligrapher? :D

Looks like he did that in Paint or something similar. The mouse is hard to write with. :)

I meant to crop the photo down but drew a black line instead, so I just went with it and put that chicken scratch on :D

The back is indented, I will post a picture of that tomorrow morning. Looks like someone made a press or a strike with a Abe head on it.

that is called a pop-up, it was done with a pair of dies after it left the mint.
a cool find but not worth a whole lot. There are some older ones that can get pricey though.

here is a neat website about them: http://www.popoutcoin.com/price1.htm

It looks like there is a pop-up group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pop-up-coins/ only 22 members. I hope you will still talk to us non pop-up people! :D

I have found two or three on those with the head stamped in it in circulation. (looks like Kennedy)
I have found about 5 or so that have crosses cut out of the middle also.

Found a couple of Kennedy pennies and also a few "statehood" pennies. Just sent them on their way.
