New member and interesting find

Postby MUTiger » Thu Nov 10, 2011 11:17 pm

I just found this group when Coinflation.com posted the link about iluc's Treasure Hunt book. I have been sorting small time for several months. I am picking it back up from the early 90's where I culled about a box of copper just from my change.
Last Saturday I got a box from one of my bank branches and took it home. It was assembled by the branch from 23 CWR and 27 plastic wrapped Brinks rolls. 10 of the CWRs were in similar wrappers so I opened one. Imagine my suprise when no penny in the roll was newer than 1974. I opend the rest of them. Five rolls 1974 or older 3 with 1975, 1 with 1977 and one with 1982 as the oldest date. It had about 9 1982 copper cents and the rest older. All of them had many examples of bright red AU-BU cents. The rest of the CWRs averaged about 23-25 % copper.
I am a hand sorter now but would like to get a Ryedale. I also like to collect lead (if you know what I mean) and use my Redding Model 2 beam balance set on 47 grains to weigh the 1982s. If the beam floats, copper. If it drops, zinc.

Not that you asked me, but here's my $0.02:

Colt 1911 .45 and a 870 12 Ga. (or 2) is a good start.
Toss in a .22 Marlin and any decent .360 with a scope, you should do just fine.

PS - I have to admit I have a fondness for for a stainless Ruger .357, but the .45 Colt will do if I only have to choose one.
