2012 Pocket Change Finds

Postby AGgressive Metal » Wed Dec 21, 2011 11:12 pm

Hi, I think it will be interesting if everyone not only reports their 2012 finds, but continues to re-edit their post to track their totals throughout the year.

2012 AGgressive Metal totals:

Wheats: 0
97% Cu Canadians: 2
.999 Ni Canada: 0
Canadian Clad: $0.25

And he that hath lyberte ought to kepe hit wel

OK, AM, you are on! I will try to update my finds this year - I don't find much, but will try to keep mine up.

Not quite pocket change, but close. Also, I consider this a "called shot". Told a co-worker I was going to the office coffee room next door to look for "gold" in the change. No, not gold, but I did find silver! So I consider that almost good as gold.

Found a old-looking Roosevelt dime at bottom of glass change jar. Looked at date - 1946! Not bad! A silver Roosie, and the first ones to be minted! I replaced that one with a copper-clad one and done!

It was a bit slick - came in at ~ 2.4 grams. But it was nice to see a coin that is 66 years old that finally found a good home - my hoard!

I lag my family in finds. My kid has found 2 silver quarters and a war nickel. The wife has found 3 or so silver quarters and one dime recently. But I do my part to find cheap silver!

They are still out there folks! I may consider getting a bag of dimes the next time - seems like the small date and size makes people not notice the silver ones.

Good luck all! :D

AGressive Metal - I like your idea of tracking finds - I found 3 silvers in change in 2011 - and highly doubt I'll top that, but I'm sure gonna try. I pay with cash about 95% of the time, so I get plenty of opportunities.

I also track my "on the ground finds" - so far for 2012, I'm up $1.63. I found 2 clad quarters and 3 clad dimes the other day in a Walgreens parking lot.

Got a 1941-D Mercury dime in change at the local Dairy Queen today. I went back and asked for $2 worth of dimes from the cashier, and after an odd look I got my dimes but there were no more silver ones.

Good idea on ground tracking. I need a wheat counter for my smartphone or something. I'm just going to update this post with anything cool that I get/find which is not really all that much.

Pocket change: Feb 20th - took a 1942 wheat out of the give/take penny dish at gas station.

Jan: Rolls: .73945 oz. + silver dime
Coin dump machine: 4 gram .925 sterling pendant
Feb: Rolls 3.15553 oz. + 1967 half + 1969 half
Coin dump machine: 1 Dirham, 65 Canadian nickel, Canadian quarter, 2 euro cent
Actual acquisition: 3 1/2 oz. RCM dragons, 3 RCM commem. polar bears
March: Rolls: 60 Franklin! + 8 40% half + 1921 British cent from half roll.
April: Rolls: 3 1964 Kennedy + 2 1968 Kennedy
May: Rolls: 3 64 Kennedy + 1 68 Kennedy

This will be my first post, but the highlight of my day required that I finally joined. I've been reading for awhile now but up to this point haven't had anything to add to all the good info on here.

Found my first wild silver today in the coin return slot of a Coke machine. 1963 Rosie, didn't even realize what I had until a few hours later when I stopped and looked. I went back and tried to get more dimes out of the machine but no dice. Only got nickels and quarters back. Dime must have been rejected by the machine as somebody used it to get a drink. Oh well, still happy to get it. And of course happy to finally be a poster :)

A 1926 Mercury dime from Walgreens today. I can't find Merc's in my dime boxes, but they seem to pop up in my change recently.

My 9 yr. old son found a 1950-s wheatie in some change I handed him after purchasing some junk food and high dollar gas. At least I got a few cents after the purchase.

Finally scored a couple things - Canadian 97% cents, Canadian quarter, and Cayman Islands 10-cent. And while it doesn't count to my total, a friend got a Mercury dime from a gas station in change.

I got a '64 quarter in change the other day. Funny thing is, I don't know where...so I guess it's possible for these things to go unnoticed, even by someone who's supposed to know better :D
