Zimbabwe has launched gold coins they hope will circulate. The article explains it but I’m thinking this is not going to work, at all. Still when is the last time a country created a gold coin intended to be used directly in commerce?

I was wondering why they wouldn’t use silver instead of gold, but all gold mined in the country is sold to the central bank.
