That's awesome! Last year, I found an AU 1909-s VDB and a 1931-S in the same $50 bag ... my heart nearly jumped outa my chest. My excitement waned a bit at the sound of the coin when bounced on my desk, and then was extinguished when both coins weighed in at 2.6 grams. There are plenty of fakes out there, but it's fun even finding a fake S-VDB.

Thanks guys, I am still in disbelief that I found such a coin! I'm so glad to be able to share the find with the realcent family. I'll try and get some better pictures of it up here later today. Unfortunately I will have to wait until next week to get it looked at and sent in to be graded. From my very uneducated eye, I would say this guy is somewhere between Fine and Very Fine. I'm hopeful it comes back VF.

The coin searching gods sure have smiled upon me. Before this discovery, I found my 8th wild Indian in an earlier box yesterday. Crazy how that doesn't even deserve mentioning after finding the VDB!

I am located in Nebraska. The coin came from a Loomis box, wrapped in Omaha, NE and picked up by me at a bank in Lincoln, NE. I know it had to be fairly recent, as all the boxes I picked up on the last run were stamped with a date in March 2012. Creshka-looks like that article was from 2006, so it is possible that it could be the coin he leaked and it finally made its way out here 5 or 6 years later!

As NHsorter said, you never know what will turn up in the zinc pile. I've had many times of pouring through the thousands of rejects only to find nothing, which is discouraging. But stumbling upon this beauty makes me thankful I kept doing it. I have always thought that if I didn't check each coin, I would end up cashing in a great find such as this, and this time I would have been right. Leave no stone unturned, they are out there boys!!

Definitely send it in to be graded! You don't know how much you have helped everyone - now they can point their wives/girlfriends to this thread and say "SEE, I'M NOT CRAZY!!!" Haha. Congratulations.

I have a hard enough time convincing people that I actually DID find an Indian in a bank bag. Still just the one, back in June of 2010. It was memorable enough that I put it in a 2x2 and wrote the date I found it. But I would trade the thrill of finding a hundred Indians for this find!!! Shoot, I would settle for a single 08S or 09S Indian or 09S Lincoln!

Alright, spent some time tinkering with angles, lighting, and settings on my phone to get some better pictures. I don't have a scanner available to try. Still nothing amazing, but these pictures are better! I apologize for the pictures showing up so large and wide, I have no idea what I am doing to make this happen. To make them a more friendly size, right-click on the image and select "view image". I got two decent pictures of the reverse, one was able to catch the "VDB" shining well, and the other reverse picture captured the top portion better.

Sorry for posting the first picture twice...I think I'll just leave it as is before I cause more problems with it. Hopefully you guys can get a good look at the coin now. I would love to hear opinions on its authenticity as well as what you might guess for a grade! As I said earlier, this thread from another site seemed to be the most helpful in making comparisons on authenticity:

Hah, now I see what you guys were talking about when you said I got the last one on the planet after seeing MH's chart!

Haven't made any plans for the coin yet...right now I am going to hold onto the coin. Finding this coin myself in the wild makes it extra special, and buying another off the market just wouldn't be able to equal this!

Let me know when you find one that looks like this (Just kidding, this is the one I bought for my daughter's reverse centennial set, old green holder and CAC!):

In all seriousness, I love supporting the art of hand sorting. I am going to send in a PCGS order in a month or so and I'll pay ALL COSTS to send yours in if you want to send it to me for submission.

If you are concerned about sending me a high priced coin ask my references if I can be trusted.

I appreciate the offer, that is very generous of you! I'm not sure of my intentions yet, but I'll be in touch if I am ready to send it in.

Sounds good jacer333.

Don't try to sell it without getting it certified. Your profit potential in a PCGS holder is at least double.

umm sorry I have some bad news you see on the sides 3 sides, top, off set lower right and off set lower left of the coin the words copy. it should be on the face and back, but putting it on the coin gets around counterfitting laws.

just kidding I hope it is real for ya.

curious what you guys think this new vdb coin is worth ??

also someone mentioned he bought his kid a vdb, nice and shiny pic....may I ask, how much did that cost ? Looks like it would have been a hefty price tag

congrats on your find. I'm trying to find the thread here about mentioning other indian head finds during sorting, I'll keep looking. Found more yesterday.
