I can't believe how many 1965 Quarters there are out there. I bet over half of the 60's Quarters I find are 1965. Sorry, no real point just annoyed by these teasers.
What I learned here:
A penny saved is a penny earned, 145 pennies saved is a pound.

I believe 1965 was a high mintage year for both quarters and dimes. Widespread hoarding of the 90% silver coins caused a coin shortage, so the U.S. mint had to scamble to make up the difference.

What you need is a real problem to deal with.

Then, all of a sudden, 1965 quarters are pretty cool.

Boy did I ef up!

Sorry Rejinx. I tend to be the class clown.

Should have added the proper emoticon-smiley thing. I didn't mean to be heavy.

So.......

We should assemble an army to kill everyone who authorized so many 65s!

There really is a butt-load of 65 quarters still circulating. Over 1.8 billion of them minted - lots of edge wear but they're hanging in there. The gal that cuts my hair lets me take home her coffee can of change to sort from time to time and there's always a handful in the can.
....not a fortunate son.

If 1965 was the last year 90% was made, we would be hating 1966's

not sure if its true, but I once read that this was done so that people didnt hoard them until they built up the populations of clads.

Actually, 1965 was the last year 90% was made. LBJ continued to mint 1964 dated coins in 1965 as the clad minting was not up to speed until late 1965. There was a coin shortage then, but as a poor high-school student graduating that year, I didn't have any money anyway. :)

LBJ decided that there would be no coin shortage due to collector-hoarders. The mintmarks were removed, and no proof coins were minted either. The coin shortage ameliorated by 1968, and mintmarks were put back on ALL coins then.

These were minted in 1965 too. LBJ wanted coins to circulate, so the date was frozen for a good part of 1964.

Looks like a job for Realcent's Chief translator :)

Ameliorated: a-meal-or-at-ed /1-2verb/3noun - (1)verb- played out. as in no longer being an issue. (2)verb- lessoned to an extent tolerable. (3)noun- a large snack for a gathering of small fur covered egg laying mammals. Such as a large crayfish peresnted before a gaggle of platypi.

Ok, now I'm confused as hell. Just what in the blue blazes does a gathering of small fur covered egg laying mammals have to do with 1965 quarters?

The little island girl says I've had enough to drink this morning, but I going to need another Southern Screwdriver after all this rigamoreroll. In case you Yankees are wondering that's a wonderful mixture of Peach Faygo and Vodka. Sort of feels like battery acid going down, but what a kick.

RC's chief translator does it again! Hail to the Chief! 8-)

I hear ya 'Bama. The mental image of a gaggle of platypi converging on one poor little crayfish has me reaching for my old colonial favorite recipe of hard applejack cider on ice!
