I went to a metal detecting competition hunt today. I did pretty good. Entry fee was $50 but I came away with 1 Walking Liberty Half, 4 silver quarters, 17 silver dimes, 4 V nickels and a token which was good for a finds pouch.

On the way home my buddy & I stopped at an elamentary school for about 1 1/2 hours and I found:
3Q
10D
1N
10P (3zinc, 5 copper & 2 wheats)
1 Chuck E Cheese token and a junk charm.

I took today off to go on a fishing charter boat but it got cancelled due to windy conditions.... :?
So, since I had the day off I went back to the place that's been producing silver and had a little more luck!

In 3 hours I found:
4Q
5D
0N
29 cents (22 copper & 7 wheat)

Plus:
A large button from a military uniform, an arcade token, a junk charm and 2 more Mercury dimes

9-quarters
22-dimes
19-nickels(hunting for gold)
85-pennies(31 coppers 2-wheats)

Last 2 hunts got me very little in change but did get ring #'s 28 and 29. #28 was a junk one but #29 was marked sterling with a nice rock!

The only thing is...the oposite side of sterling....it says...."AVON"...so I doubt about the stone being real...pics later!

Pics to come later....!

I hit the corner lot next to the local Dairy Queen. They put out some picnic tables for the customers to sit and eat their treats. Anyway, they closed the store for the season. It will re-open in late February. So....I decided to do a little Turkey Day coin shooting. Here's what I got in three hours.

30 quarters
36 dimes
12 nickels
159 pennies (3-wheats 1-40's/2-50's) These were deeper than anything else found at 6 to 8 inches.

No Bling

237 coins for $13.29

(By the way....I got tired and there is just as many targets left for next time....but mostly pennies.)

Guys, Im sorry for posting here but I didn't know a better spot and I would appreciate your comments on this Fisher 1235x.

Im new on and the forum and metal detecting comments from you guys has me interested in getting started. I want to start with an entry level detector until I learn more and I dont want to spend a lot making mistakes.

I heard Fisher detectors are very good and found this ad for a Fisher 1235x for 135 from a local pawn shop. what you guys think, worth getting to get me started? Im only interested in clad and silver coins, no gold or relics really. I dont think i need anything fancy. i just want something to get me started.

thanks CU Baker, went to check out and ended up passing after playing with it. Will be checking out the Ace 250 on your advice as a starter detector. Thanks so much for the heads up.

I forgot to post my finds from this past weekend.... :o

I found 2 more silver dimes on Friday at my usual spot, a 1943 Merc & a 1961 Rosie plus 9 wheaties but I forgot to count the clad before I dumped it in the coffee can.

Then my buddy Gary and I went to a friends church on Saturday and I found a 1935 silver quarter, a 1945 wheat and some other stuff. Gary found a license plate from 1959 but no old coins, we donated everything found to the church, they are going to do a display of stuff found on the property next year on the church's 75th? anniversary. We'll probably go back a couple of times and see what else we can find for them.

Looks like the end of the year for me. So here are my stats for this year. I started out a little in late February during a nice late winter thaw and ended this month with only a couple of short hunts because of the wet weather.

8180 coins found. Included were only 8 silver coins. 7 were dimes, 4 roosies and 3 mercs. The other silver was a really worn 30-something quarter. I had 52 wheats also. The oldest being a sharp 1911....a guess it was in the ground for 100 years. The rest was clad and LOTS of pennies. The total of the 8180 coins was $477.01.

As for jewelry, I found 29 rings. Most were junk rings. But I did find 4 gold rings and 2 gold earrings. 1 gold ring was a "help wanted lost ring" ad from craigslist. Got me a $100 reward. :D Melt was $300+ at the time. I cashed my other 5 pieces of gold and got $200+. The other 3 gold rings were small 10K ones with hardly any weight to them....but GOLD!
As for silver jewelry, I hit 8 items. A nice heavy bracelet, 2 earrings, and 5 silver rings. I still have the silver except for the bracelet.

$477 coins
$ 20+(silver coins)
$200+(gold sold)
$100(reward lost ring)
$ 50+(est silver jewelry)

I think I had a good year treasure hunting.

The ATPro was bought in August.....and only found like 20% of those finds. The rest were found with the Ace250!

Damn guys, my White's spectrum is having issues ground balancing and I have been putting off going to the factory (about an hour away) because I am pretty sure it is the coil and I really don't want to cough up $150-$200 at this point but I guess this thread has inspired me to go get it fixed.

I am having the same problem with my beach hunter this summer, but struggled thru it, just had to live with the constant hum, and listen a little more for the lighter tones. Maybe santa will bring the new AT Pro, if not I will have one by the time the ice goes off the lakes this spring. I have not had a garrett since the early 70's. I think its out in the garage someplace. I have been a white's man the past thirty years.
