So a coin made of copper in a $20 gold piece design. The seller obviously has checked out the composition, because of his answer regarding the size.

What a rollercoaster this has proven to be!

I go from a large cent to a gold dollar to a gold double eagle then all the way down to a token! I still am going to have the coin tested for metal content to have this issue settled once and for all.

The results are in: Market Harmony says the coin is an an alloy of Cu and Zn. Sorry, no gold. Oh well, it was a bonus coin anyway, and sure made for a lively thread!

Agree it was an interesting thread, and I learned several things from it...

There were non-gold gaming tokens from the same era.. Anther easy non-destructive test you can try is a ring test. Gold coins make a beautiful sound. Test it and see if it rigs true. I would be interested in purchasing it for my collection if it is not gold. I will pay over melt.

Just saw this thread, wish I would've noticed it sooner. It's obvious it was not a gold coin from the star width/placement above the head.

Most Ebay sellers are not as dumb as they seem to be. I'd bet this coin was included with this "lot" on purpose.

Just sold it for $3.30 on eBay. Not quite the windfall I at first imagined, but my gold fever has not subsided! Back to searching...
