I've been doing dimes for about two weeks now. 2-4 boxes a day. I came across this one the other day.

I saved the obvious one to open last, but the weird/cool thing was, that in my second roll I found a merc. This was my my second one ever. I thought for sure I was going to find a ton, but only two mercs in the whole box and no Rosies? What are the odds of any silver dime being on the end? What are the odds of it being a merc? Sweet!

Looks like a photo for an Ebay listing.

Today my son Franklin found this in a end of a roll of cents. He had it opened before I could get a photo of it. And I thought off your end roll.

You shouldn;t have opened it. That roll was worth $200 on ebay.
Congrats on the mercs - I haven't seen one in many weeks now.

That's ALMOST correct. Actually, he'd have to leave it outside in the weather for about 3 weeks to make it look like it was "from an old estate sale"... THEN it would have been worth $200. :D

I got a buffalo nickel on the end of a roll in a box one time. I thought that was pretty cool too. It was the same thing though, the box as a whole wasn't that great but there was that one buffalo on the end.

The odds of a coin being on the end of a roll are the same as it being anywhere else on the roll.

Dimes
$606,769.70 Searched
4131 US
---0 US-Seated Liberty
---2 US-Barber
---339 US-Mercs
---3787 US-Roosevelts
---3 US-Roosevelt Proofs
---0 US-unspecified
56 Canadian
1.73 Silver Dimes per $250 box

These are the results of the reported silver dime finds here on RC for the entire year of 2011. There were 339 mercs reported from about 2,427 boxes. That's about a 1 in 7 chance of a merc hiding in the common $250 box. There are 100 enders in a box of 2500 coins, so the odds of any coin being an ender are 1 in 25. So, based on the results reported last year, the chances of having a merc ender are about 1 in 175 boxes (or 1 in 8,750 rolls).
