Just looking back on the year Franklin has found (3) 1954 this year and 11 Indian heads this year so I would say that the 1954 is hard to find.

After reading about these elusive wheats from the 50's I started wondering if I had any. I have found 400+ wheats since I started sorting but I wasn't sure about ever seeing a 1954 so I went and checked my bag of common wheats. No 1954 or 1955-S in there. But then I took a look at the handful of better condition wheats that I have set aside, that's where I found a copy of each (actualy two from 1954). Kind of strange that I haven't found any average looking ones; just really nice ones.

I think I've found 3 this year as well. The same amount of Indians that I found. Happy hunting!

I was able to find 3 55s this year, enough to fill up three whitman albums worth, it's always my last to fill as well. I think one of the albums might be still minus a 55s as I found one with the first 5 having the top part of the 5 filled, and decided it was worth putting in a 2x2, it's a common die chip thing with the 55s I guess. I can see how the die could become weak in that spot.

We all have our white whale. For me it was a '52S. Finally found one about a month back after finding TWO 1909 VDB and TWO IHC.

I had no idea 1954 was such a rare year. I thought all 1940+ were common, except 1943 and that only because it was magnetic. Wonder if I have any...

Went thru the 3 jars of "old pennies" my Aunt was saving for me, and found one 1954 wheat out of all the pennies. In my regular sorting I've found a grand total of four.

It may an old topic, but still very true. After two full years and 350,000+ hand sorted cents, a 1955-S has finally been unearthed. In that time we have found 3 Indian Heads, 1 George V, 6 Wide AM's, and 146 pre-1940 Lincolns (3 semi-key). What gives?

This past summer I got about 35-40 1955-S pennies, all in AU/BU condition from a bank. This was with over 900 from 1961-1964 that were also AU/BU.
