Special Coins???

Postby OtusLotus » Wed Feb 22, 2012 6:09 pm

So I walked into the PNC bank, and walked over to the counter, and asked all of the tellers for their half dollars...

The third teller handed me two, and said... "Here are some special coins for you"

I don't know exactly what they are, so here is my best description... (any help would be great as to rarity/value)

#1. Front...Liberty 1991-1995, with a V, three soldiers and a bomber
Back....no expert, but looks like a soldier on the beach in Normandy.

#2. Front...1986 Statue of Liberty
Back... Looks like immigrants looking at NYC from Ellis Island.

Both are in great condition, and its the first time I have seen either one.

As already mentioned, they are both commemorative coins.

The first one is a 50th Anniversary of WWII. According to the Red Book, 197,072 were minted.

The second is the Statue of Liberty Centennial. 928,008 were minted. There is a pic of one in the COINS: A YEAR BY YEAR PROJECT thread.

You are so lucky that they will take in stuff like that from the public, my CU won't take in anything from anyone that does not fit through the coin machine.

I walked into my PNC bank and asked about halves and they just gave me two for nothing. Said that they were rejects from their coin machine and couldn't take any money from me because they were not in their system.

Ever heard of anything so strange. Anyway I took them, thanked them, and completed my business with them. All the way home I was hoping that they were not going to call the police to report a theft. :D I still go there every few days looking for pennies but I've never had them make another similiar offer to me. Guess it was just a one time deal. That's okay by me.
Don't look back. Something may be gaining on you.

Neither a penny or a nickel is worth face value anymore.

I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger.
