Well.. Hope it is good but, I just thought about something. They say it is the #1 show.. 54 million viewers or 45.. I don't know.. But what I am thinking about is, that everywhere you read on how the main stream is not into gold or silver.. Well if it is the #1 show what gives.. I agree most people (like 999 out of 1000) or more have no clue.. but why so many viewers??? You see what I mean?
Ah.. guess I shouldn't over analyze... I'll just sit back, sip my Jack and enjoy the show.

It's an entertaining show, you don't have to own gold to enjoy it. I think Fear Factor is also entertaining but that doesn't mean I'm going to eat the nasty parts of a farm animal

I see where you are coming from but I honestly feel that this run in gold and silver does not have the "mainstream interest" you would think. I remember the stock market run in the late 90's. I'm a pretty social guy and everywhere I went the conversation was stocks, stocks, stocks and stocks. I can't remember the last time among ordinary people (like a youth sports practice/retirement party, etc) that someone said something like "hey how about that gold price last week" or "I just picked up some sweet Silver Eagles". It seems the only place I can go where people give a darn about silver and gold as an investment or store of wealth is on this board.

I think people watch the show for the same reasons people watch shows like Deadliest Catch. It's an odd way to make a living compared to what they do and they want to see the underdog win, etc..

I agree 100%. I work closely with about 25 people who I talk current events, politics, economics, job market, real estate, etc., etc. Of those, only 2 have any silver/gold knowledge or cares, even though they all know I stack, search rolls, and collect coins. One of those 2 also collects coins, and is a savvy investor, who because of a large inheritance of coins from his grandfather (gold and silver) has been beaming lately at the prices. The other guy is always asking about it, but other than the couple of silver dimes he has found in change, has yet to buy an ounce. Even though when I was trying to get him to pull the trigger - it was around $18 an ounce.

Most people are aware that silver and gold are valuable but have no desire to spend money on them other than in jewelry. They'd rather have an iPhone.

Like Gold Rush and haven't missed an episode. $8,000 for 4-5 months work isn't exactly something to get excited about. They obviously get a payout from Discovery. They get other things like endorsements or appearances (Deadliest Catch captains appeared at our our casino in Indy back in September). Certainly promise of better things in next season's dig, if they remember to release the claim.

i really dont think they forgot to re-sign a lease for the spot. i think discovery wanted the 3 mines to follow and they tried to think of a drama/storyline for how fred would take it from them or how they could kick him out. im sure each going is probably making 40k+ from discovery channel for being on the show.

When they say it is the #1 show, there is a disclaimer in tiny print. I don't remember exactly, but it is something like #1 on cable, on Friday night, among men, age 25-54 (or something close to that).

I love the show, the last episode was great, a rare glimmer of honesty at the end of the season. They didn't get the 100 oz they were shooting for. The dozer broke and they didn't get to run all the paydirt they could have even tho they had the weather for it. But they got damn close, and it was a great ride watching them reach for that brass ring, er.. gold ring?

I don't care a fig newton that any of the drama is completely contrived. I would sit and watch an entire season of How It's Made if it was about a gold mine. Fascinating. As long as the real stuff is fairly honest, that's all the matters to me. Show me how the trommel works, the wash plant, the excavator, what breaks, how they fix it. Show me the back breaking work on a clean out, washing the miners moss, hauling buckets of black sand around.

I will watch this show till the bitter end as long as they keep making them. I'll be the last guy tuning in Friday nights in a dark room all alone. Love it!

I think they need to revamp their plans abit to be more profitable.

For example, if they were gonna do a blitzkrieg wash, why not at certain intervals stop the machinery, yank the miners moss out, wash it quickly, wash the traps, reinstall miners moss and traps, and restart washing? Or have extra miners moss mats to swap out with the gold loaded mats?

I agree that they should have more miners moss. They (Hoffman crew) seem unorganized. You only have so much time to mine. They are only running 8 hours a day and have to have a meeting to decide if they should work a double. Either work in shifts or run 12 hours a day every day. Fred made more money because his crew is very small. The Hoffman crew is too big. With that many guys why does only one know how to turn a wrench?

I like to watch because I want to see the gold. The drama is to make the show entertaining and I could do without it.

I think the show is a good idea but it could be so much better. The methodology of the miners is very unscientific and they waste lots of money processing ore which they're not even sure contains gold. The season moves along painfully slow from episode to episode and the narration is redundant in saying the same things over and over again throughout an episode. The fake drama, cheesy music and poorly-timed commercials are ridiculous, glad I have a DVR. I also notice bits of disinformation and anti-gold propaganda thrown in from time to time as well. Like them saying that gold has never been a more popular investment, etc.
