You can just torrent it, or see if someone posted it on YouTube. Discovery seems to have this habit of not yanking shows from that site for years.

Has anyone else noticed that everyone on that show is always eating something or smoking? Just a random observation.

I contacted the manufacturer for the Hitachi Starfish excavator. The cost is 1.5 million Euros, plus the shipping cost from Antwerp to Nome.

They need 7 months to build it. It will operate standing in 6 meters (19 feet) of water. It would include the extra long arm, 21 meters long.

They need 30% down with the balance due upon completion of the build. Their quote with several cool drawings is here: http://www.idahocopper.com/images/Starfish.pdf

It might be worth looking into how the non-recreational mining claims near Nome can be leased, or bought. Its a good excuse for someone here to fly up to Nome this summer to check it out for a couple weeks.

Yup, that's another $250k to $500k machine that is needed to be bought or leased. Also operating expenses, fuel, living expenses, etc.

I think I would not try this venture without around $2.5M to $3.5M in assured capital to begin. Of course if the gettin' is as good as the show says, it is potentially possible to extract $15M or more in gold, in the first season. The machines could be expected to work for maybe a decade?

Any of you high-rollers wanna play?

Here is how the wash plant would be built so it is above the swells and able to work next to the excavator in any weather, round the clock:

Wash plant needs to move with the excavator.

Yup, the 4 spuds jack up and down, so the plant can float and move under its own power. It would also have a workshop aboard with a arc welder and tools to fix most anything on the excavator or the wash plant.

With an arm 65 feet long, the excavator can work moving around the wash plant for a fair while; before moving both machines to the next nearby area, probably less than 50 yards away..

IdahoCopper, I like your style! I do not have enough capital to assist with acquisition of this equipment but if you need hands I've got enough to get where I'm needed and expenses covered for several summers and have no problem working all day.

I don't have that level of capital either. The capital can be attracted to the project, but the plans must be complete and the gold returns must be certain. So there is a lot more research and planning to do.

I just might fly up to Nome this summer to see things for myself. I do not trust the reality shows.

I get a lot of Delta Miles, they work for Alaska Airlines as well. So my flight to Nome is probably less than $100 round trip, with 60,000-90,000 miles.

The cost to buy claims is not crazy, our Starfish and wash plant are a lot more.

http://www.akmining.com/mine/sellclaims.htm

Updated 3/28/11
Nome Beach Claims - Eight contiguous State of Alaska 40-acre beach claims for sale, located at the mouth of the Cripple River, 11 miles west of the Nome jetty. Each claim is 1,320 feet wide and extends offshore up to 1,320 feet from the mean high tide mark on the beach. These claims are suitable for high-banking during low tides and dredging in the nearshore environment. In total, the buyer would have 240 acres or over two miles of the gold-bearing, ruby sands of fabled Nome. Will sell all eight claims for $190,000. Who cares? Its insignificant compared to pulling out $15M in gold, in one season, for 10 seasons.

I've been to Nome a few times, but not in the last several years. I wish I had been a little more knowledgeable about PMs back when I was going there.

The amount of gold those guys are pulling out in a single day seems incredible. If they're true, then these guys really let the cat out of the bag. They'll be seeing a lot more miners and ones with better ideas (like IdahoCopper's).

Called Delta this morning to see about using Miles to fly to Nome. Only limited seats are available for Miles, and they're all booked up, for the whole summer.

Paying with FRNs, its right about $1,000 RT, with seats still available. So, I'm not sure if I'll go up there this season. Depends on other factors.

The season finale is tomorrow and I just need to say that this show has become really terrible. Just about all the characters are [fluffy kittens]. Plus there's no dynamism, no gut-wrenching decisions about where to dig, what claims to get, what equipment to get, or any of the fun stuff that Gold Rush Alaska had. It's mostly just weather difficulties and everyone getting pissed at each other all the time. It could have been a good spin-off idea had the emphasis been more on likeable characters that we root for to succeed over time instead of having everyone quit in disgust right before the finale.

It's just like a porno, we don't watch it for a storyline. We watch it to see the gold porn at the end

Plus is Emily the ONLY woman in Nome that isn't taken? God, it must be hell if she is.
