Do I sell my box of 5 25th anniversary ASE

Postby robroy » Sun Feb 26, 2012 9:54 pm

I have been sitting on a unopened box of 5 25th Anniversary ASE and received an offer of $3,200 for the box. This box is eligible for 1st strike from PCGS. Me delimna is this that it doesn't seem that the uptick for grading these coins is good. Unless I am totally mistaken the estimated return on grading and getting back a PL69 sets is not that much more than the offer that I received.

So what would you do given the above and you don't really need to sell the coins. Would you sell or continue to sit on them? Also, is my analysis correct?
Don't look back. Something may be gaining on you.

Neither a penny or a nickel is worth face value anymore.

Is there a typo in there or are you being offered $640 per ASE? Personally, i would take the $3.2k and buy 80-90 ASE's, but i am a much bigger fan of bullion than of numismatic value.

I think maybe he means a box of 5 sets... I hope he does, anyway! I'd sell it the unopened 5, buy a single 25th set (assuming I didn't have one) and use the rest on ASEs and the like.

who offered you 3200.00 for the box? I can guarantee you I can beat that. Anyways, long term I really can't see them going a whole lot higher. Buy you some pre-33 gold, some 90%, some Morgans, rolls of eagles ect. The only plus side is if you think silver is gonna crash back down to the 20's then the sets "should hold more of their value???

I would have sold them months ago for $750+ a set! The price is only going to go down on these....just like it didnt for the 2006 set.

I would sell, but that is my choice.

If Scotty can get more, take that deal and throw Scotty a bone for helping you out.

Spend the 500.00 to hopefully get a ms-70 grade and sell for 1400-1600 a set.

If you need the money, then sell for what you can get today. If it is not a problem for you to hold, then sit on that box for a longer period. Unopened boxes will continue to carry a premium, but once you crack open the box, the coins are what they are... professionally graded or not. If you can squeeze more out of your money by flipping them into another investment, then do it. But I think that the "5 set unopened box" itself will carry a premium in the future... In essence, you are almost guaranteed a "70" set in there. And how many people opened their box of 5? I did... Being that 5 was the limit and only 100,000 total were minted, and the set sold out in a few hours, the 5 set boxes are going to be hot items in the future. I wish I still had mine. :?
