Finding silver in the wild.

I know that the avg. rate of finding silver in dimes, nickles, and halves but what is the rate if you are looking at quarters?

Not enough to make it worthwhile IMHO. Check the old tracking threads and you'll see that more often than not quarters are gonna be skunks. Quarters move through the system fast and the silver ones really stand out compared to dimes and nickles so they have mostly been picked clean. BUT you never know when you might find grandpa's collection in CWR or lobby counter bags. I have a bag source that is about to pan out for me and the counter does not sort, they are mixed bags of coin. So I'll be going through a lot of quarters I'm sure. I'll keep you posted if I find anything.

1 Dime per $500 box seems common.

I have gotten 1 Silver Dime per $70 customer rolls everyone once in while- but not achievable if you wanna sort regularly.

I have never seen anyone ever pull a Silver Quarter from a roll- customer or FED. Quarters are extremely hard to find.

I used to buy two rolls of quarters a week for about two years, roughly $2000. I only found one silver quarter.

I've only found one quarter, in a return tray. Never seen one in circulation. As the poster above, they circulate a lot and are quite obvious.

There are some quarters that have numi value though.

Searching $500 in dimes to find 1 dime worth about 2 bucks seema pretty impracticle to me...i think ill stick with making bank connections and have tellers keep a eye open for me. Lol

I have found anywhere 1 to 21 dimes in a $1000 bag. Avg is 3-7 per bag

I work at a restaurant where I go through a lot of coins in general and I just don't see silver in the rolls really ever.

There are some quarters that have numi value though.

I have found two silver quarters in the last 6 months. One fairly recently while going through a box of quarters to fill out my kids state quarter books. I was not searching for silver just P mint mark State Quarters.

The other silver quarter was about 6 months ago in the change can of our snack drawer at work. Looked in there to make change for a dollar and an odd looking 1964 was shining differently than all the other quarters. I nabbed it for $0.25.

I was not searching for silver quarters on either occasion. Just happend to be lucky.

I found 1 silver quarter in a agallon jar of coins my sister in law had me search from when she tended bar 4-5 yrs ago.

This week end I only got one box of pennies so I took a chance and grabbed a box of quarters. I am just wondering if anyone has had any luck in finding silver in wild in Canada or am I wasting my time? Not much chance in grabbing silver halves or dollars north of the border. I'm sure that the tellers grab them pretty fast when ever they come in.

I have heard stories of one here and one there coming out of rolls or bank bags. It seems the only ones recently found are newer proof silver quarters.

The only ones I ever found were in change from the store and change from Burger King or dug out of the ground.

I've gotten a couple of quarters in change from gas stations they make a really different noise in the plastic change return.

I lived in Vegas from 1990 thru 2003. The machines then paid out in change rather than the paper slips they use now. In all those years, and far too many hours in the casino - I found a total of 9 silver quarters in circulation.

In the 7 years in Tampa since - I've found 1. I got that in return change from a coke machine.

Dimes - much more luck. I've gotten several in change in the past 3 years, and just today bought $25 in CWR and found a 1964.

My favorite waitress gives me a silver quarter maybe 1 a month. From her tips. I found 2 on my own last year, one was a Statehood.

I got a 1962 in change back from Wendys on Saturday. I had my boys with me and didn't look at the change until Monday. That is when I found it.

My wife got a 64 Quarter in her change today - she's aware and supportive of my stacking, but knows nothing about it. Today she walks in, and said "is this one silver, it sounds different and it doesn't have brown edges"... sure enough, a wild 1964!

$500 in Canadian dimes - 2 silver dimes. A bunch of US dimes and 1 UK coin. Not really worth doing.
