Is this a good %

Postby abe » Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:43 am

I generally don't roll search nickels, but yesterday at the bank I got 5 rolls of nickels. My finds were;
1944-D
1947
1969-S
1983- XF (2)
2010 P

I always search for descent 1982 & 1983 coins because there were no mint sets, so thats why I added the 83's. I know the nickels from the 40's are good finds especially the 44-D. Is this an average for 5 rolls, or better or worse? I know the 2010 is no big deal, but its the 1st in a roll for me. Thanx.

Good find on the war nick!

Better than average for only 5 rolls.

Definitely better than avg. Nickels are like that, you buy a few folls and get lucky. . . then once you get heavy into them you dont find anything but common pre 63's. Most recently 3.5 boxes and not one WN or buff. I love nickels though, they just sound and feel like real money! :ugeek:

I save all pre 60' plus 60 and 61, 62, and 68 D and S. Never heard about saving 1982 and 83's.

I only keep the XF and up 82's & 83's. I saw a coin company with a roll of VF 83 qtrs for $49. There are probably tons of unc. 83's put away, but I still get my kicks when I find one in half descent shape.

I went to a different bank and got 5 more rolls;

1944-D
1954
1956-D
1957
1969-S
1983-P(3)D(1)
I believe I could get into nickels if I keep getting at least 1 war per 10 bucks.

You're getting lucky! You've been bitten by the bug yet? lol

You found another 44D in the second batch!? Awesome man. Keep going, and good luck.

In 5 rolls (which is what I usually buy at one time), I'll find a couple from the 50's, maybe one from the 40's. No silver yet.

Got 5 more rolls;

1- 1947
1- 1951-D
2- 1958-D
1- AU 1966
1- XF 1983

I saw a coin-star in a Food Lion store and it said no charge for cashing in change, is this true or are there hidden fee's?

They claim no fee. . . however this only pertains to cashing in your coins in exchange for a giftcard at one of maybe 8 stores. Borders books and overstock.com come to mind. Otherwise for a cashout they charge either 7 or 8% i believe.

There are a couple of tracking threads that these results can be posted in. There is one for nickel sorting and there is also a monthly one for nickels - dollar coins for silver searching results. It's fun to see the results that others get compared to your own. Skunks should be posted too as these keep the results more realistic.

Congrats on the War Nicks!

Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. :geek:

I figured there was a catch, but I do understand they have to make some profit to stay in business.

That would be an awsome percentage of 10 war nickels per box but your sampling population is too low for good numbers. Best I have got is 5 warnix per $100 box and the worst box was 2 warnickels in it. Average in the pittsburgh area is about 3 warnickels to the box.

Interesting. . . I'm in Pittsburgh as well and am lucky to find 1 per box. Im on a rough streak right now, 3 boxes and not 1 Warnick. Found 3 buffs in my last box though.

Where do you get your boxes? I get them at PNCs south hills areas. All the machine wrapped I get at least three to a box usually more. On customer wrapped rolls I dont see any but one teller I frequent rolls about 43to45 per roll when she is counting down her till or something she always gives me 'long'rolls
