I roughly went through 150.00 as well, though I sifted out 4 lbs of pure nickel.

I just recently started collecting nickels, is there a way other than bombarding the bank for them? Maybe I got a bad teller, but she wasn't all that friendly when I told her I wanted $35 in nickels. If you call in advance, can you get boxes? Or any uncirculated suggestions?

As far as Canada goes, Nickels is the best bang for you buck as far as coin searching goes. Call ahead to a few banks and say you were looking for a box or two. My experiences have taught me that to start this by just showing up gets you a bad name. But a call ahead is no big deal. Some banks take in more change than others mainly cause of business transactions. Some get to much others not enough. Figure the ones that don't get your dumps and the ones with too much are a pick up. I've been searching on the east coast for years so they put rolls and boxes aside for me to pick up. Took a long time to get here though.

Yeah some of them but it really depends on the teller. I only have one bank account but use different branches. You'll find out which ones are Ok after awhile. Also if you're just starting and a teller is good to you, donuts are very cheap and will pay off tenfold I promise you. Don't be afraid to tell them if they find any silver that you buy that too. Tell em you pay whatever you decided times face value. They see a lot of coins too. Let them know pre 67 for quarters, dimes. I buy off 5 Tim Horton workers that keep their eye out for it. Where in Canada are ya from

Nero, I'm not from Canada..although, I did get the pleasure of working with a few Canadians in Afghanistan..pretty good folks. And seriously, hands down, the only coffee worth drinking out there was Tim Horton's. I could only imagine what it tastes like in Canada, with what they had to work with out there! Thank you for the help. I will definitely be doing business this weekend!

Ok. So I went through about $160 in rolled nickels tonight. I found only 3 War Nickels. Not much, but it is something. Anyway, I've decided to sort some of my nickels by decade, since I don't really know which ones from what year are valuable yet. I'm beginning with nickels dated (besides War ones) from the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's. Anything from the 70's on up to the present goes into my general pile. I've noticed the ones from the 60's seem to have a different look than the others. So we'll see what happens in the future....by the way...I haven't found a SINGLE nickel from 2009 yet. Are they not circulated in Wisconsin?? I've read that other people have found them.

Ok...so it turns out that I've only found ONE War Nickel...the other two from 1942 didn't have the "P" so it looks like I have just one after all :(

The 2009 nickel still continues to evade me! Maybe I will finally find one when I pick up my box today.

I just did a $200 bag of nickles last night and only found 1 war nickel . Boo hoo. I just need to sort more and grampa's MS Buffalo collection will eventually surface.

Your not going to believe this, just got done with two string boxes and...5 war nickels (one golden tone looks uncirculated) 10 Buffalo's, and 8 Liberty nickles 1901-1910. I had never even seen a liberty nickle. I actually found all of the Buffalo's and Liberty's (and 2 war nickles) in the second box. I'm still in shock.
