I think that if they change the formulation of pennies and nickels all older coins will dry up within a matter of 3 years. I forget how long it took the silver dimes and quarters to dry up, but I don't it was much longer than that.

As I recall, the biggest cause for the silver coins to leave the market was the Hunt brothers and their attempt to corner the silver market. Once the formulation is changed there will be push to allow for the melting down of the older coins, and once that happens they will be scarce.
Don't look back. Something may be gaining on you.

Neither a penny or a nickel is worth face value anymore.
