Finally found a war and a buffalo nickel

Postby robroy » Sat Mar 17, 2012 1:47 pm

I have been having the worst luck in finding either a war or a buffalo nickel. I can't estimate the number of Brink's nickel boxes but in just one roll I've found both a silver nickel and a buffalo. I'll grant that both specimens were well worn, but I was bound and determine that I was going to find one for own. Now that I have I can continue searching in peace, but my next goal will be to find a 2009. I've found plenty of pennies (500 out of 175,000).
Don't look back. Something may be gaining on you.

Neither a penny or a nickel is worth face value anymore.

I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger.

Funny you should mention that. I have begun sorting my nickel rolls and a 2009 D showed up after about a 100 dollars.

Where are you located? Here in Western PA I'm finding 1 war nickel per $100 face searched. I've searched about $1000 face in the last year and have only found 1 buffalo--a 36-P.

I'm in W PA (Pgh) as well. I used to find war nicks and buffs a good bit, but over the past year they seem to have dried up. Its been probably over $2,000 dollars worth since ive found any. Ive found 2 2009's, one from each mint and I search/hoard quite a bit of nickels.
Soooo... Is it just me or is a chart of US debt looking dangerously parabolic?

Got over 3600 of them in the past year, but I go through a lot of nicks.

Yet to find a buffalo in the wild. Ah, one of these days.

I have found two buffalo nickels in the last 2 weeks from sorting $300 in nickels so they are out there. One was dateless and the other is a 1920

Once pulled a war, buffalo, and a V nickel from the same box. After that trifecta, I declared victory and have never touched a nickel box again.

oh I believe you man! I was laughing about the "trifecta," and how you decided that with such a lucky grab like that it was time to retire from touching nickel boxes. Great Story! Love it! :D

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!

Just for fun, I went through two boxes of nickels last year. Wanted to see I could pick up a war nickel. The first was a shunk and then that one came. And well, is really a point after finding the "trifecta"? Haha. The only other noteable I've picked up was a 1950-D. It's cooling it's mullet (and heels) in my dansco album.
