Oh... too bad.
For a moment there it looked like you got a fair price on a genuine valuable antique... but under very high magnification it distinctly says "steaming"

Looks good to me. This appears to be STIEFF Sterling (Baltimore, MD) company that has been producing Sterling items since the 1890's.

Good news: The Handle is Sterling.....and you can open my beers in style at the next GTG.
Bad news: thats a hollow handled piece and the opener ring is steel. So weight wise.....probably 20-30 actual grams of sterling.

If you bought it to melt, shoot me a PM before you send it off to a refiner.

Really? I figured with the ring being steel there would be some give but that would mean that 30 % of the weight is in the handle and 60% in the opener, doesn't seem logical

It wouldn't surprise me if the steel extended through the length of the handle.

Bust it up.....don't take my word for it. I've been wrong before.........twice to be exact.
Use it as a learning experiance......tuition. Do us a nice write up with photos, or make a contest out of it.
Or sell it in a KSA.....It's worth $40 easy as a cool bottle opener than scrap anyways. Don't give up, theres still fun and/or profit to be had.
