"Genuine Artificial color" Man on lot 6 that threw me for a loop. Kept saying it to myself over and over trying to figure out what I was missing. LOL. I'm finally came to the conclusion you were expecting it to come back as "genuine" do to artificial coloring? :) Anyways, so if your expecting one/some of the ASE to "just" come back as genuine, do they still go for a good bit of a premium if they make it into a slab??

If they get an honest MS grade......yep they're worth good money.
if they get the "geniune" questionable color grade...........nope.

I got smoked on lot #6 :x

Got the grades back on lot #7. Not happy. PCGS is starting to loose my faith in their quality and consitancy of service.

I mean the 97-s was a redfiled hoard crack out.....and it comes back cleaned? The coin I do Clean comes back MS-66 !!!!!!!! WTF PCGS, Get it together!!!!

3 of these coins were crack outs.....I'll give all the details later when I simmer down a bit.

Ouch on #7. Also you listed the "CC" as "you undergranded" but unless they put "PL" on it, I would think the value of a 62PL is greater than a 63, right?

Alright here goes....the truth:

78-cc was purchased raw from eBay......coin is NO BETTER than a 62 But has 6in mirrors.....Easy Proof like. I acetoned and dipped it for 5 seconds.
82-s was a Old NGC fatty crackout. It was way under holdered at 63dpl. Easy 64PL or DMPL.....It comes back cleaned???????? I didn't touch it. (see pic below)
97-s was a redfield hoard crack out. UNC 64 all day long. 65 on a good day. It comes back cleaned??????? I didn't touch it.
02-p was an old ANA crackout. Graded MS-65. Tried to give it away here and on BS for $350....see pic below. No bites. So I cracked it, Acetoned it, dipped it 3 times for 5 seconds each time, then acetoned it again. It comes back MS-66.....only 28 coins finer!.....WTF

Now I'm tempted to start buying "cleaned" coins, and use Doc's patented uncleaning process for a free upgrade. ;)

What kind of dip was that?

Pcgs is a game that i sometimes dont like to play. I would say that sometimes a coin to you looks better than it is and sometimes its better than it looks. I got a quarter that dont even look cleaned and it came back effect details cleaned. its all a game always buy the coin not the holder

I, more than anyone I know, Buy the coin not the holder. PCGS just skinned me. Still I'm in the black overall with that 1902.

I'll resubmit.....and keep everyone posted ;)

That is quite an upgrade, Doc... 64 to 66 after a dippy do and some acetone!

The Redfield is surprising, the DPL is not... with the toning most likely developed from the fatty slab paper, and the polishing lines which give it the PL look, the graders sometime see the coin falling into the category of "old coin, old cleaning, retoned" If you had dipped it, the story may have been different. And the 78-CC 62PL grading as a 63, well... that's the way they do it sometimes. It's like asking yourself, "Is this a coin that is so superbly struck that 63 marks make it look 62, or is this just an ugly mishandled proof like coin that should be so much nicer?" If the coin warrants it, it will be given the 63 over the 62PL because it just sits better with the psyche. I wonder what they didn't like about the Redfield... :?

I was reading your latest results when I came to this line:

7-1993 ASE / My grade MS-67 (COLOR!)/PCGS grade MS-68---------------------------------------------------------------I under graded

I was just looking at the grades initially and saw MS68 and then saw 93 as the date :)

I was like holy cow that's a HIGH 6 figure coin.

Then, I saw it was an ASE. Still very nice, but I thought you hit the super jack pot!

How colorful is that one? Do you have pictures?

Man do I wish Barry.....That would be the morgan I would probably have to sell. I wouldn't feel right keeping it.

but yeah....a colorful ASE instead.....and I will get some pics up whenever they come home from their Newport Beach Vacation.

New grades are up for lot #9. I smoked it again.

Same story as with that 1902 morgan. I tried to sale this coin on Realcent for a song and a dance. Now it's in better pcgs plastic and at MS-62 worth over double.

3-1852-P Gold dollar / My grade MS-60/PCGS grade MS-62--------(PCI crackout I tried to sell on RC for $350)-------I under graded.

This just goes to show what I've said a dozen times: Don't use inferior plastic. Even the brilliant eye of Doc was tempted to dump something for 50% value because of being in a non PCGS holder!

Thanks Spence........and yeah Barry I have next to no experiance in $1 gold. I tried hard to move that coin at MS60 prices. My gut told me it was crackout candidate....so crack away.

Nice Doc... Do you find that most/some of the old ANA slabs usually upgrade?
