The Who, How & Why of Silver Price Manipulation

A very interesting read....it explains how High Frequency Trading (HFT) works. "This is the placing of sell orders in great quantities by computer programs that suddenly appear as legitimate orders, but are really mostly "spoofs," or orders entered and canceled immediately (in the fractions of a second)." All this drives the prices down....

thanks copper catcher, a good read. sounds like JP and others are doing us a favor right now by keeping things low. wonder how long we have to keep adding to the stacks before the unmanipulated price becomes reality?

I heard a couple of years. So, I tend to think the mining cycle might catch up with a price point that satisfies demand and we stay stuck at that price for a couple of years. Miners won't over produce, makes no sense, I've heard of consolidations going on, with mining stocks kind of low?, I guess that might just be normal market behavior of today though.

One problem with supply and demand is silver's tendency to be found with other metals. I'll use copper as an example:

When copper is being mined, silver comes up with it...and the copper miners went nuts over the last few years trying to meet China's seemingly insatiable appetite. With the price of copper going down, the supply of silver will decrease as the copper miners slow down their production.
