Grade This Nickel....test your skills

Postby Rodebaugh » Mon Nov 22, 2010 2:07 pm

A little fun for my Buff herders.

So here it is: A PCGS graded Nickel that was once in the Rodebaugh collection....tell me what it is and grade it....first guess counts only.....Grand Prize wins the satisfaction knowing that you could sub at PCGS on the weekends. The dark scratches are holder scratches. Coin has no problems.

"Coin has no problems."

Easy. MS 70.

Just kidding. I won't embarrass myself publicly with a guess, but that is one dandy Buffalo.

Unfortunately to me its just another 37-D in Fine or so condition. But to millions of other collectors its a must have, and it wouldn't surprize me if PCGS gave it a VF-25 or 30.
Got Laminated Lincolns? Give me a buzz.

I'm not that into this series so this is just a guess...VF30 3-legged variety.

I'm gonna say VF-20. You really need the tip of the horn to get to VF, but this is a 3-legged variety with some strike weakness.

I think you called it perfectly for a standard 37-D.....Like you said the 3 legged often has a strike weakness that I feel the graders accounted for.

I’ll give you some points for your guess. ;)
