Electrical Outlets/Receptacles

Hey guys- my first post on realcent- i've been a member here for a little bit (came over from BullionStackers).

I recently bought my parents house and have moved in and have been updating the electrical. I've switched out most outlets and receptacles but have been holding on to them.

Question: I know there is copper in the outlets and receptacles. Is there any place that takes them for scrap? Are they worth keeping?

There is a fair amount of brass in them some prople just smash them and take the brass. Any steel, ins wire or copper just put in the correct bucket untill you go to your yard! And welcome

I've taken them apart and separated the steel, brass and plastic. Seems like a big waste of time for the small amount of metal gained. I've never found anyplace that will buy them whole, although I suppose you could mix them in with shred.

Reusing electrical outlets isn't the best idea. As they age they become less reliable. It's nice to have a couple of units around for projects if needed, but new ones are cheap enough.

As mentioned above, as scrap they can go as light iron/shred at many yards.

Dr Cadmium- I wasn't planning on keeping them to use- for sure. Some in the house were going bad and instead of piecemealing it, I decided to switch them all out, due to concerns on the reliability of old outlets.
