My goal is 1 ton and I'm currently about 500 lbs short.

Sounds like my situation. My original plan was one-ton-and-done. I think that I am there now. If not, I am really close. And I have no plans to stop. Now, 1 million pennies sounds kinda nice. Never had a million of anything!

Wow, sounds like we have a lot of lurkers with good sized hoards out there! I find it irrelevant to set a long-term goal as the US penny will not be around much longer, I'm just doing the best I can with any free time. No matter how much resistance we see, the writing is on the wall with Canada taking the big leap in dumping the penny.

You will have at the very least 1 year left to sort( more like 3-5 years), but I would say the penny is not going anywhere next year either, we will have a steel penny before no penny

I'll agree. There will be copper pennies in circulation for years, but if you thought sorting for a modest 20% was tough at times.... wait until the composition change actually happens. I'm not sure if I'll sort if the payout drops below 5%

This morning while I was waking up, Fox News started a story with, "You better start saving your pennies..." I thought it was a big announcement from the Mint, but it was something about our gov't spending trillions. Wishful thinking. :)
