It might be my turn

Postby CardsNCoins » Fri May 18, 2012 6:17 pm

I stopped into a local Capital One this afternoon asking about customer wrapped pennies, and the vault teller said he just got in $35 worth. I said I would take them all, and when he started laying them out (the wrappers were the kind that show the coin on one side and the paper is folded over on the other) I saw a lot of wheat enders, and the ones that weren't wheat had that rich copper look to them.

Well, I just opened one of the rolls and it had 26 wheat (all 40s and 50s) and 21 coppers (definitely not complaining about it being 3 coins shorts). None of the non wheats were newer that 1966.

There are a few different types of wrappers here, but he said they were all brought in by the same person. We shall see. I will update the thread later tonight when finish going through them all.

Opened roll #2, and found solid copper but no wheat this time. Mostly 60s, with a few AU/BU 70s mixed in. :D

We play on.

The proverbial elderly old widow who just finished pile driving her old man into the grave. He's happy to be there too.

But since she is all-knowing, as all these old bats are, and he was totally broken and emasculated, her final act of victory was to take his collection to the bank.

Same old story. I've hit two of these. It's sooo much fun!

Jackpot! Congrats.
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

Sorry about the play by play, but this is really fun, and my wife couldn't care less. At least I have all of you. :o

Roll #3 was short 4 coins, but still solid copper. 38 LMC and 8 wheat.

Oh, your a roll searching veteran so I probably don't need to ask this. Did you ask the teller if that same person deposited any other denominations of coins?

Congrats, on the find. It is always exciting when you hit one of these sweet spots...It kind of makes up for those dry spells.

Checking in after 40 of the 70 rolls.

I saw a few straggler zincs here and there, so we'll say it's about 99% Cu so far, with 445 wheat (99% are 40s and 50s).

Going through these 70 rolls was a whole lot of fun. Here are the final totals.

$35.00 face value = 3,500 coins

2,302 = copper (1959 - 1982)
667 = wheat (will check dates later, but mostly 40s and 50s)
482 = zinc
5 = Canadian copper
44 = coins short (definitely not complaining)

86% copper is pretty sweet. 8-)
