I got a chance at some silver.

I went to my main penny dump bank today which is an hour away from my home (closest with a free counter). I was on my way back from work, so the distance doesn't matter.

As I enter the bank, I see a man and a woman at the machine. They had coffee can after coffee can full of coins. At first, I thought "man how long will I have to wait." I recognize him as my 7th grade shop teacher.

He was dumping coins for the estate of his deceased neighbor. They were just about finished. He had a handful of rejects that he was putting in for a second pass. One was a 67 kennedy. I bought it for $1.

He said that his neighbor was a hoarder. This was his second trip in. The first one involved several trips with a hand cart.

Anyway, he said that there is some silver and that I can come over to his home and buy it. I am going to call 3 of the local buyers in the are and average what they say they will pay.

I am also going to see if he has more change to get rid of. If he does, I will offer to bring over my coin scan and count it for him so I can go through it.

He had $34.50 face in silver. I paid $665 for it.

6 morgans and 2 peace dolalrs @$20 each.
2 Canadian Dollars @$15 each.
$24.40 in junk silver @18x face 439

The extra $36 comes in because I forgot to subtract the two canadian dollars out of the the total face value. I really ended up paying $33 each for those. :|. My fault.

One of the dimes was clad, so we did subtract that out.

I averaged 26.68 per oz. That wasn't bad two weeks ago when I made the deal. Silver was trading over $28.
