Sometimes I hate nickels

Postby reddirtcoins » Sat Jun 09, 2012 8:35 pm

So being bored tonight I took a few boxes of nickels and started to go through them. I came across a 41 that you would swear is a copper/silver/manganese nickel. Everything looks correct just no mint mark and I know, I know... (42-45). But I'm telling you. I've handled war nickels for a long time. So I started to do some research and I found something that I never knew about (not related to this)..

There is a rare "S" 42... Wow.. Now I'm going to be busting open boxes for months digging through my 38-49's looking at the 42's...

AAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....... Sometimes I hate nickels..

do the silver nickels weigh different from regular nickels ?
nope, they both weigh 5 grams.
How would you prove it was a silver nickel without destroying the coin ?

I'm sure it is just a nickel that sat in war nickels so long it now looks like one. But I'll keep it and continue to research.
