History Channel's Pawn Stars to check out huge silver bar

Postby Ardent Listener » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:44 pm

From what I could tell from the shows promotional advertisement, it looks like a 1,000 ounce bar. They were even drilling into it to see if "steel" was implanted into it! To air on Monday I believe.

Silver Linings

Premiere Date: 06/04/2012

Take a shine to the Pawn Stars when a guy brings in 100 pounds of pure silver. Including a single brick worth over $35,000, will the guys mine a deal, or will a led center cause the deal to sink? Then, Rick gets stumped when a seller brings in a mysterious book. Hand-written in Cyrillic, can this ancient text turn a successful chapter for the store, or is the end written in stone? And later, the guys flash back to the '90s when a collection of movie props from "Batman Forever" come into the shop. Will nostalgia lead them to bite, or will they not even bat an eyelash?

So they made up rounds with the old man's picture on them with most of the big bar. $60 per ounce for them, but they will get it. Not from me though.

Given they get a thousand or so "customers" per day, they should be able to sell them for the profit margin. Thought I wouldn't blame some folks to try and haggle on the price!!

These guys are really good at marketing themselves. How long til that coin ends up in the generic silver bin at the LCS?

Also, that coin is really only a $35 souvenir because it has intrinsic metal value that you can get out of it. I bet it appreciates to a profit for the buyer before the $35 worth of T-shirts and the kitchen magnet my wife and I bought when we were there.

Checked ebay and 96 have sold so far. Of course they're probably giving ebay and paypal around $8-9 per coin, so they're really getting $51-52 per coin. Still not too shabby.

This video makes me so jealous... I wish I could've bought hundreds of pounds of silver at $3 an ounce... So. Much. Of course I was too young then. Oh well.

$3 an ounce wow... This is the reason I don't buy more silver.

I'm not buying that story one bit. Smacks of scripted to me. Good idea ... make some silver rounds for the old fart's birthday. Might as well put something on TV for free publicity so you can charge outrageous prices for them. I can hear the producer now, "Don't forget to haggle a little, the people love that."
