i scored BIG

Postby iatetacos » Thu Jun 28, 2012 1:23 pm

So i went to my usual bank to pick up my standard bag of pennies (i am poor and cant afford to look for silver most of the time). Anyways the teller there says "hey we had someone turn these in, you can have them for $6" what she takes out are 3 books. 1 book of buffalo nickels, 1 book of Jefferson nickels, 1 book of Roosevelt dimes up until 60. so yeah. none of the books were all the way full and what i ended paying was face value for 30 silver dimes, 6 silver nickels, 20 buffalo nickels, and the rest was Jefferson nickels.

Someone came in with books? Like those Whitman blue books?

Now thats incredible- any one with a half a brain would have walked them into a coin shop. Whats amazing is that he left them in books and deposited them AND the teller left them in books instead of popping them out to put in her tray.

AND whats even more amazing is she is like 'durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' and hands the books over of clearly old coins at face value!

Any special dates of the buffalo nickels?

Man you have cool banks, people are too smart around here or something they keep the valuables. I was at a market and saw they had two dollar bills in the till and asked if I could buy them and they said the manager had them save anything interesting for her which she used for her vacation fund. Wow I thought, even two dollar bills! Also several tellers at banks have told me they keep the silver for themselves. Nice score!!!

Very nice teller and friend! I doubt there are very few tellers nowdays that turn loose of those instead of purchasing them. All the tellers around here seem to constantly buy all the old stuff that comes through for themselfs.....

Hey Blackrabbit.. the moment you think people where you live are TOO SMART for something, you should just pack everything up and go home! That is the beauty of what we do... search rolls, tellers trays, garage sales.. looking and hunting for silver, copper, gold, and rare coins in the wild...

good luck hunting all.... Nice score BTW

Nice score. I wouldn't believe it, except two years ago, my father in law picked up a book of quarters a yard sale. It paid $2 for it and it had 9 silver quarters inside. :?: :?: :?:

I still don't understand why the guy didn't pop the quarters out and throw the book away.

That had to be thrilling! The last time I bought some blue books, the guy sold them to me at melt value. Just one of the key date old coins paid for everything I bought!

And you got these for face value?? Lucky you!
