Go in next week, Get a manager.
Buy a bag.
With the manager standing next to you, open it and run it through the machine.
LOUDLY note the difference and demand a refund, and compensation.
For added effect, bring a deputy and apply frequent use of the "F" and "T" word (Fraud and Theft).

*Note: This could work against you, as the machine theoretically could be over by the same amount it could be under.

I had that happen once. My receipt showed the number of dimes and pennies that were dumped in... When it had $1.50 in pennies on the receipt I talked to the manager, pointed out that I only have dimes... I have another couple hundred to run, so she could see I did have just dimes, she opened the machine, did a cursory exam of the bags and could clearly see that my dump had only been dimes. So, she waived the fee for the machine (1%) and credited all the pennies as dimes...

Unfortunately they shut down the machine, it was down for months, so I had to find another way to get my dump cashed in.

That's the risk you take sometimes when you buy bags. Chalk it up as a loss and keep going, or find a new bank.

$32.60 is the most I have been shorted on a bag of dimes, but I did get twelve silver from it. Not a word said, because this little bank calls me every time they have four hundred bagged up in cents. Just got to take the good with the bad some times.

That is why you shouldn't dump dimes into those machines. Did the printout show pennies being counted?

When I bought my bag of pennies from the bank, they said emphatically.. "the bag could be over, or it could be under!"

I told them that I understood, and they sold me the bag.

I think if I told them that the bag had to be 100% accurate, they wouldn't have sold it to me. Caveat Emptor.

I got a bag of dimes several weeks back that by my count was about 15 dollars short. This is the first where the mistake was in the banks favor. I generally get dimes in my penny bags. The banks are hesitant to sell for the just this reason. They don't know what's in the bags. I accept the possibility of shortages as part if hunting bags which beats cracking rolls any day.

This hobby comes with risks and rewards. You gotta be willing to take them both.

I won't dump dimes in a machine. Wrap em or bag em.

Definately don't make a stink if you want to keep getting them.

This is why I stopped doing dimes. I noticed that I was always shorted when I dumped dimes, not sure if the machine was counting bad, or if the boxes were short before I opened them. Now, all I am willing to do is pennies, nickels, and the occasional halves. With pennies, I often get dimes, with nickels I often get quarters, so I usually end up ahead. And halves are so big that I think the machines are really accurate with them, I haven't been shorted yet.
Pennies: $4200 - (0) indians - (5)steel - (1) George V Canadian
Nickels: $6500 - (62)war - (23)buf - (1)V nic - (4) key date jeff's
Dimes: $5000 - (24)roos - (2)merc - (2)AgCAN
Halves: $8000 - (7)'64 - (33)40% - (1)walker
