I've been checking 2 different Coinstar machines, each once a week. I've found exactly 1 clad dime so far. Not quite the money maker I was hoping for..

Been a while since I found anything at a coinstar but today I was greeted by 3 Ca dimes, 1 US CuNi Nickel and a zinc penny! I'll take it!

I was dumping $95 in zinc to get a Lowe's card for a bathroom project. My daughter always checks the reject tray and throws the pennies back in the hopper. I noticed a few dimes as she was doing this. We found the following.
3 clad dimes (made up for the 20 something zincs that disappeared)
1950-D Roosevelt
1984 Canadian dime

They must have been stuck in the chute from the reject tray because they were not in bottom when we walked up. I guess that is where my missing zincs went. We were syched about the free silver.

I needed to order something online from Amazon this past weekend so I walked to the local grocery store with a bag of zinc cents to dump in their coinstar machine and get an Amazon gift card. What did I find in the machine? Two dimes and a nickel. :D

I never use these machines for several reasons, but I always check the two by the exit from the store. Hit or miss, usually just a coin or two. Nothing special. Two weeks or so ago in one of the machines I found 37 dimes, 37 pennies (odd I know) one Canadian 25¢, and eight tokens from the local mini golf (25¢ each).

I found a 1905 Liberty Nickel in the reject tray of a coin counter. It's the best one I've found in some time. A new date for me too. :)

Walked into a grocery store last night and as usual checked the return bin of the Coinstar machine. No luck. On the way out, just happened to look down at the edge of the machine and what do I see? A 1927 Merc just laying there. Easily the best Coinstar find I've ever had. Can't believe I missed it on the first pass.

I found this in a coin counter reject pile! I think I was nervous for about 20 minutes afterwards. Amazingly this is the second gold coin I've found. The other I found in a penny roll, but this one was free and has more than 2x the gold. It's the best thing by far I've found in 5 years of coin searching. My blog has a bigger picture up.

Every time I am at Wal-Mart of the grocery store, I'll shuffle over and peek at the coinstar. I have never even seen a zincoln. Zilch. And you got a gold coin. Crazy! Incredible find, nice job.

These coin sorters sound much more promising than checking payphones for change, especially when the latter are all but gone now. I'll have to get with the program...

Took a bag of zincs to the Coinstar today to exchange for a Lowes gift card. Someone before me had left behind two pennies that were stuck together. I pried them apart and put the copper one in my pocket and the zinc one in with the batch I was dumping.
