was this a good score?

Postby GA-Silver » Sun Jul 29, 2012 7:49 am

Went to the local flea market yesterday. I bought what I thin is a silver commerative coin. It is a George Washnington coin dated from 1982. It says "half dollar" on the reverse, with old George on horseback n the front. It is the same size as a half dollar......I am pretty sure its silver....am I correct in my thinking?

there was a commemorative of G.W. in 1982 90% you probably did real good.

I'm no expert but the coin should be .36169 ASW. I have a couple and they are neat. Don't know if these where ever made with a differrent configuration but I don't think so. Good buy I think :D

Good pickup for 4 bucks. Congrats. The GW 1982 Comm. is very common as a numismatic item .... but sure worth $4.00 as when they were minted I think they cost $10.00 per coin. They represented the start up of the .50 commenoratives after a long break from the earlier series (the really expensive nes :D ). The GW was minted in 'S' and 'P' I think. Someone with more knowledge can correct me. These are, as I said, super common, and even in red book or other coin catalogs have a numismatic value of around $7.50 or so. But the silver makes them desirable at that price you paid.

Now let's see ... where is that blasted cat! I'm hungry. woof, whine, drool, sniff ... 'here kitty, kitty, kitty, nice kitty. Where are you little kitty?

I done a little research and found one on the 'net that had an accompany postage stamp that came with the coin in what looks like a cardboard and clear plastic display. The back of the card said it was 90% silver.............
