Fair Common Wheat price?

Postby Sheba » Mon Aug 06, 2012 2:54 pm

This is similar to marine70's question ... but this has to do with an offer for 4 or 5 rolls of mixed common date wheat ears. Probably a lot of 40s and 50s but also some older too ... no high priced keys in this lot and average to above average grade. What is a fair price to offer (to a friend who is dumping them for whatever they can get).

Also same question for common date Indian cents. Nothing rare in these either ... mostly later dates, conditions vary, but are average to above average. What is a fair price to offer for a roll, maybe two rolls of CD Indians?

Thank you to any who are willing to offer comments.

So I edited my original post.

Barrytrot is correct .... 4-5 rolls of common date wheat cents, mostly in the 40s and 50s.

AND about 2 rolls of Indian Head cents ... all common date late 1800s and early 1900s.

I want to be fair with my friend and fair to me :D

Thanks for advice. Please keep it up. I need all the help I can get.

I know my LCS buys common Wheats for 3 cents a piece. I can't wait until my bi-weekly visit comes! Might just have to acquire some shiny!

I am glad you guys can get Wheat cents for 3 cents each. A $50 dollar bag goes for 4 to 4.5 cents per coin at LCS in Tulsa.

If I were to purchase the Wheats from my LCS...I'm guessing they would be at least 5 cents? Not sure.

I have a page bookmarked. about.com./coins. has a nice wheat price chart. just to note 1942 and under common dates jump from 3 cents to 10 cents. I keep them separate now.

My LCS is also 4 cents apiece for commons and then he goes up from there. I'd like to know where these guys are buying bags for $150.00??? I would be buying all I could get at that price.

idk how they're buying that low... I have the highest price listed right now on cl and I have not gotten a single reply specific to bulk wheats.

A related question .... I know that 'catalog value' prices are way more than folks pay for actual coins. Does anyone know 'ballpark averages' for prices paid versus
'redbook type catalog' prices? I'm thinking specifically of the "2012 Red US Coin Digest' catalog.

So dealers pay 50% of listed prices ... (ballpark estimates, of course) ... higher or lower?

Thanks very much for some excellent information being offered. Looking for more! :)
