Canadian Nickel CuNi run rate.

Just got through sorting are free Canadian nickels and found we had more 1982 and before than post 1982 is that a number for that.

It is probably because the coin counter junk is usually mostly magnetic. The CuNi ones almost always get accepted as US nickels. If you roll search US nickels, your .999 ratio would be much lower. All of my non magnetic Canadians that I find all go back into a coin counter.

I am lost on this one as .999 is magnetic as are the steel ones. See --http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_a_nickel_magnetic So from the mints website looks like the 1982 to 1999 would work for that theory.

From 82-99 they were not magnetic. So the machine is accepting them and you are not getting them. You are likely missing all of the ones from that chunk of time and that time period accounts for a large percentage of the Canadian nickels in circulation at this time.
