Canadian pennies

Postby im2shakey » Sat Aug 18, 2012 6:14 pm

I have a 1960 Canada Penny that is dated 1960 and it is like steel, silver colored or something...did they make pennies out of anything else other than copper?

Maybe you have a penny that was plated for a souvenir type coin?

I have a plated 1956 that has solder on the back like it was in a piece of jewelry. I have a plated 1939 and a plated 1941 that have small holes at the top like they were on necklace chains at some point.

It looks like it was coated with mercury. I have a 1972-S Memorial cent that looks just like your coin. It was a common thing to do in science class back in the day!
