Question on 1988 Bermuda cent

I have a Bermuda cent dated 1988. Krause says that Bermudan cents 1986-1990 were made of bronze, but that all 1988 cents were struck from copper-plated steel. However, my specimen is not magnetic. My coin weighs 3.1 grams, but unfortunately both the bronze and steel varieties weigh 3.1 grams. I strongly suspect that my specimen is a 1988 cent struck on a bronze planchet, but this kind of error is not mentioned in Krause or any other publication I can find. Has anyone else ever heard of one of these before, or is mine the only one known to exist?

Krause depends on Collectors and Dealers to report new dates.

Since the bronze alloy was also struck in 1990, you most likely have an unreported example of KM44.

more than likely not rare, just overlooked by the catalogers, because no-one has bothered to report it.

either that, or 1988 is mistakenly recorded as copper-plated

Krause list KM44a cent as copper plated steel and only weighing 2.8 gm and KM44, bronze, is 3.11 gm

So I'd say you have a KM44 unreported/mis-reported date.

I'll check my Bermuda cents and see if I have any information to help...
EDIT: Nope, nothing later than 1981 or earlier than 2001. Although my 2009 Krause book says the 1988s were steel, not copper-plated steel. Again, that's not conclusive, it's just what it happens to say. That's why I was hoping to look at some actual coins, know what I mean?

You could always write a letter to the government and/or treasury of Bermuda I wrote a letter to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand once and got a prompt air mail reply - bankers don't get many letters
