Hammond V-170 Organ - Scrapping in Progress

Postby OneBiteAtATime » Mon Aug 27, 2012 8:51 pm

Have read elsewhere that the Hammonds have about 2 dwt of Palladium in the key connects. Not to mention the speaker, amplifier and all the wire as well as any brass and shred I can find in it.

I have this one that I grabbed for $10 from Craigslist a while back. We enjoyed it for a bit, but have an electronic keyboard that is way cooler!!!

I have opened it up and there isn't much there. I don't believe I'll make more than $30 at an auction, and sort of want to just tear it apart to try it. But wanted to pause, collect my thoughts, and ask what you guys thought before I go to the hammer.

So.... what do you think? Scrap or Auction?

Auctioneer says they cannot sell them. I'll give updates as I tear this thing down. It's one of the lightweight ones, so I'm not holding my breath.

One hour into the demo (and then called away for dinner and lack of sunshine).

Ok, so here's the top layer. The tips of these contacts are supposed to be palladium. There's also supposed to be a thin palladium wire that runs along the contacts.

Re: Hammond V-170 Organ - End of Hour 1

Postby OneBiteAtATime » Tue Aug 28, 2012 8:40 pm

Under the lower set of keys, I found a pen, a kids fork and a copper penny. The copper will be included in the final total.

Below is the end of hour 1. The items on the left need to be broken down further. On the right, the hollow shell of a former organ.

When I get another afternoon, I'll keep on.

Neat idea. Please let us know how it turns out. What is palladium worth anyhow?

With many of these organs, the parts are worth far more than scrap value. I don't know if that's the case with this model.

If you have a small amount of Palladium, the marketplace here is probably one of the best places to sell it. Many refineries don't even give credit for it.
