Well yes, plus I have been doing business with this yard for over 22 years. They want all our railroad scrap so they treat us good on everything else as well.

Not bad for a months work and 2 guys. But we're pro's and we strip EVERYTHING down off of our cooling units, plus have our own 10,000# commercial scales to make sure we get paid for all our weight (we mark our gaylords accordingly so they know we know our weights). We also get a premium for our material because we do so much volume. Gotta love scrappin'!!!

I don't know how long you have been doing the HVAC scrapping, but when we were still doing it, we were getting $27.00 per ton for the sheet. Times sure have changed! :D :D :D
Gotta love that $200+ steel!

Took my 1st trip to the salvage.

Sold a 22 lb box of computer power cords for .55 lb, which was $12.10.

Im still wondering if it would have been worth it to strip, I will know when my digital scale comes in
so I can weigh the copper by the oz.

Meanwhile, Im sitting on a growing hoard of 14 lbs #2 stripped copper, and have another 40 to strip.
My, you have a lot of coins! Please wait while we catch up.

Wow, I was robbed.

I asked the guy how much it would have been had I cut the plugs off the ends and he said the same.

Ill shop around for a more fair salvage yard.

This smaller wire I dont think Ill strip it, probably takes me an hour to strip 2 -3 lbs for about 1.25 more than I could sell it for.

So Im risking cutting my fingers for $2.50 to $3.75 per hour.

I have 33 lbs of it.

Im running a razor knife down it.

DFW , Texas

12-21-10

42 lbs unstripped wire @ 1.87= 78.54

17 lbs #2 copper @3.21= 54.57

19 lbs tin @ .01 = 19 cent (not worth the trouble)

The guy didnt like me trying to remove some of my copper to make it an even 17 lbs.
I ask him what about my ounces (the scale doesnt do ounces), he says sometimes it goes for him, sometimes for me,
and that it rounds it up or down to the nearest pound.

This made me realize I need to get a postal scale for copper, then make sure my weight is (for example) 17.6 before taking it in to get rounded up to 18.
I dislike losing 4.9 ounces if it weighed 17.49. Thats half a pound. Or just be honest and make sure it weighs even lbs.

Some guys before me brought in 268 lbs of copper wire in 5 gallon buckets.
